OK, I don't know this one. My instinct would have been to go with Tarkenton, but not with enough confidence to answer without a lifeline. This doesn't look like a good ATA, so let's use PAF.

I would never had chosen an answer here without lifelines. Had I been forced to guess, though, I would have been right. I would also have had no idea how I had reasoned this out correctly. Here was my reasoning: Johnny U was retired by then. Joe Namath was past his prime and maybe retired (it turned out he played with the Jets until 1976). It would have been late in Fran Tarkenton's career but not possible to rule him out. I was pretty sure it had to be one of Roger's comebacks.

If I have the right game, Tarkenton would have been the opposing QB in the same game (a playoff game that Staubach threw a late TD pass to Drew Pearson to beat the Vikings). So he would be the toughest distractor they could come up with.
