Apparently this change has created a lot of controversy.

There are an incredible number of idiots posting nonsense on the newspaper message boards. Very hateful kind of stuff.

I am so sad that something that should be a positive thing is getting twisted so badly.

Tell Swampy, and yourself, that newspaper and local blog message boards are full of the usual suspect sort of people. I know this from reading our local stuff during elections, bond stuff, just general whatever.

The vocal "everything sucks and is corrupt and wrong and bad" contingent is universal. Most folks who are either happy with what's going on or are seriously interested in effecting change don't spend their time on stuff like that.

Swampy RULES! Swampy RULES!

Tell Swampy NOT to read that crap.
Well, then

I agree with beebs. After my campaign press release was in the paper, the comments on the paper's website included things that ranged from rude to outright lies.

It's the lie stuff that is so grating. I would love to respond to some things, but I can't because of where I work. Fortunately, maybe 50 people read that crap.

There are people here whose job is to read the comments on online stories, to delete the evil ones and ban the users.

I could not do that job. I quit reading comments a long time ago. They are too mean for my delicate sensibilities.

Once you get past the ick of them you're able to put them into the "bullshit box" and go on. I'm so lucky, I get to pass on the comments to our board members when I'm emailed them, since we can't delete stuff addressed to them. It takes a certain obliviousness to do so at times.

It's true..most people who write comments on those sites are idiots who can't spell or use
proper grammar. Esto would go into shock if he had to read them all.

My brother used to get the same cruel stuff when he was a sportscaster for U of L. Some people
couldn't stand him and didn't hesitate to post their vile comments on the web. He knew not to
even look at them. It's disgusting what some people are willing to do under the disguise of a
"screen name".

I hope your sister is not reading this crap.

After a few days, I made the conscious decision to stop reading the comments. I figured that, at most, about 12 people were reading them, so it didn't make it worth my time to expend any energy worrying about them.

Yes, a good? example. SwampyTurtles went through in vitro to have the twins. When she was talking to the head of the commision (several years ago) and they discussed this, my sister packed up some of the books she had on it to share. Very twisted indeed!

There was another thing about her being seen on Maui with some other person involved in the process. Well, they were at a police conference! Of course they were both there, with a ton of other people.

I think comments about her because she is not the most feminine of women hurt quite a bit. She has always been the tomboy of the 2 of us. But I don't think you It is all stupid stuff and she is no longer reading it.

There is a public 'hearing' where people can come and discuss the candidates or submit letters. Anonymous ones are not permitted to be read. So sometime after Friday things will become clearer.

Thanks for all the support! You guys continue to be the best!

Kay is so right. The local newspaper shut its board down after something like three months. They didn't want to monitor every post, and the garbage was overwhelming. So they don't accept comments on their stories either.

Most of them don't even care about the issue -- it's like the idiots who write junk on bathroom and subway walls, just looking for a reaction.

What a bunch of sexist garbage! Please tell your sister to ignore it and keep fighting. A victory for her is a victory for women everywhere! Most women have heard this kind of garbage about sleeping to get ahead at some point in their career--just remember the people saying it must feel extremely small!!
