The only reason I knew this (or assumed I knew this) was a Woody Allen short story (Retribution, IIRC) where the main character falls in love with his girlfriends mom and talks about seducing her by bringing her to Trader Vic's and plying her with the drink that was the answer - so if the proposition goes over bad he could blame it on the drink. It seemed to me that it must have been the signature drink for Trader's Vic. I don't know how famous Trader's Vic is for that drink or not - but it did make it into popular culture at least around 3 decades ago
