Bobby,

This is wonderful. Glad Mom and Baby are doing fine. What a great way to start the new year.

Drink in that wonderful baby smell, before you know it, they are asking for the car keys and you only see them sporadically!

Great pics. What a pretty baby (yes, boys can be pretty!)

And I love your new avatar.

Awww, what a cutie-pie :D We'll have to invite him over to hang out with Angelo -- whenever Angelo decides to show up! Looks like he missed out on being the New Year Baby.

Thanks. But I should let you know I'm not MarryMeFlyFree. On the previous version of the bored I was SakeOfTheSong. Both SoTS and TLiTF are names of songs by the greatest songwriter in American history, Townes Van Zandt.

I found a link to the song on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0MtO4HCfhs
I have no idea what the video's all about, nor what the construction stuff is all about, but the actual song starts in at about 50 seconds into the clip.

Oh, thanks for the link! That video links to another Townes Van Zandt song -- "Pancho & Lefty." One of my favorite songs :)

The Willie Nelson-Merle Haggard version was out around the time Leah was born, and I used to sit in the rocker with her & listen to it. Sometimes for hours. Cool memories! Enjoy rocking your little guy & listening to great music, Bob!

Anyway, our son came out at 1:14 central time today.
Congrats on the new arrival!

Bobby, I noticed you said midwife. Where did you have the baby? I used the midwives at Illinois Masonic for all 3 of my kids. I loved them.

We had the baby at St. Francis in Evanston (no, the baby's not named after the hospital). Our midwives have priveleges there and at Evanston Northwestern, but we went with St F (much to my initial surprise) because they seemed a lot more personal, plus they have LDRP rooms, so in theory we'd never have to move. Of course, we (I love how I say "we" about this stuff) labored in the room with the big hot tub, which they want to keep available for the next mom in labor, so we ended up moving for recovery anyway. But it was still pretty nice.

We used North Shore Associates, which has 2 midwives on staff, Gaye Koconis and Debi Lesnak. We used Gaye and she is fantastic, and I've heard nothing but good things about Debi, too.

It was also a little eye-opening for me how much of a difference the nurses can make. Most of them were excellent, but spending a shift with the two who just tried to push Margy around was hell. One of those two, also, came close to insisting that because I was a man, I couldn't possibly know how to change a diaper (this, I add, was on day 3, with a Mom who just had major surgery and couldn't get out of bed without help - did she think they were changing themselves up to that point, or that we called the nurse every time the baby pooped????)

We also learned that the advice someone gave us to bake cookies for the nurses was very good advice, indeed.

That's very weird. It goes to a link to TLITF for me. But you can just search for that song on youtube and you should find it.

I really like the Willie/Merle version, but I don't love it. It's weird, to the extent that most people know anything about TVZ, they tend to know Pancho and Lefty, which is an amazing, amazing song, but I think he wrote a dozen or so that are even better. But if you want a great interpretation of it, I'd suggest Emmylou Harris' version. I had the privelege of seeing her in concert with Elvis Costello a couple years ago, and they did a duet of it that brought me to tears.

Oh, no.....I meant, in the "related videos" link off to the side! Pancho & Lefty, sung by TVZ himself, was the first one! I guess I love the Willie/Merle version since it was the first time I heard that song, and I have pleasant memories of that time with teeny-tiny Leah in my arms. (She turned 21 a month ago! Can't send a pic at the moment cause my work filter blocks Photobucket, but I'll try to remember later.)

I noticed the Emmylou version in the YouTube menu -- but by that time I'd listened to the others a couple times already & was a little Pancho-ed out  I'll check it out later.

OK -- I listened to the Emmylou version of Pancho & Lefty -- very pretty! I do love that song.

Well....we're still waiting patiently for Angelo -- 5 days late now. I believe the plan is that if something doesn't happen by tomorrow, the doc will try inducing this weekend. Of course, that means she'll probably go Friday  Sure, she should be taking nice long walks -- but they live on a very steep hill and it's icy as heck out there now. She did go walk around WalMart yesterday.

Meantime: pix of the girls as babies, & last summer as young women!

Enjoy this time -- they grow up very fast!
