This is horrible. I am so sorry.silvercamaro wrote:I don't know what happened, but I must face the possibility -- perhaps the probability -- that it somehow involved a fight with Rusty, as the three dogs (Annie, Rusty and Irish) were inside the house together, with no doggie door to let them out or another critter in. What this might mean for Rusty's future is equally unknown. Annie and Lizbit will be kept away from him for at least the immediate future.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:OMG! What do you think happened? Was it one of the other dogs, or is she able to go in and out of the house?
She's going to be ok!
Prayers for Annie, please.

judy, we are sending you ++++ thoughts and prayers for Annie!silvercamaro wrote:Annie is in emergency surgery right now.
I don't know what happened. She walked to the car and got in by herself. I drove her directly to the emergency animal clinic, where the staff started moving fast. When I left her, the vet staff was marveling at how tough she was. She hadn't complained yet.
Please think good thoughts for her. She's already been through so much.
Please keep us updated!

Re: Prayers for Annie, please.
Many, many good thoughts for Annie from me and Bear The Orange Menace.
And for you, too, SC- I know how horrible and helpless it feels to see your furry friend hurt and not be able to do much past the frantic rush to the vet.
All my good wishes for a speedy recovery for Annie.

Annie Update:
Her surgery lasted four hours, approximately four times as long as originally projected, but she came through it all right. She has been moved to the vet clinic, which was a bit of a painful nightmare, but it's done for now. She's been injected with morphine for fast relief, which produced a most attractive silly smile, and she's on a longer-lasting, slow-relief pain killer, too. She's hooked up to an IV. From this point, infection is the big enemy, so she will get a round-the-clock watch for at least a couple of days.
To make that 24-hour care possible, she may have to get moved again tonight. I'll find out after 6 p.m.
Coincidental footnote: The young man who was the early-morning vet tech at the emergency center realized, when he looked up her records, that he had been on duty at the Oklahoma City emergency clinic the day she was brought in there in 2005 or whenever the heck that was.)

Oh, Judy. A big, warm hug to you, and soft, gentle scritches to Annie. Poor baby.

I honestly felt the color drain from my face when I saw this. I am so happy, so very happy to see that the outlook is better than it was at first. Poor Annie has been through so much..it's just not fair. I just know that she will be alright.
Tell Ms. Annie that I'm sure this experience will give her more inspiration for her opera, as most operas have sad parts, but I don't want to see her taking the phrase "suffering for her art" so literally anymore. We all love her too much.
An endless supply of head scritches from me to her. And sincere hopes upon hopes that there is another explanation for this incident besides the one you fear.

Isn't that sweet Annie has her own angel. Perhaps a part in the opera is due.The young man who was the early-morning vet tech at the emergency center realized, when he looked up her records, that he had been on duty at the Oklahoma City emergency clinic the day she was brought in there in 2005 or whenever the heck that was.)
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I was hoping that the surgeon would be able to say that Annie's wounds were or weren't consistent with, say, the bite of an animal of a certain size, or perhaps she noticed hair fibers from a grizzly bear that no one had noticed hiding behind the couch, or she found the tip of a broken knife blade. She could not, or wouldn't, and didn't. She took the more direct position that damage was extensive and it needed to be fixed, period.ghostjmf wrote:and strictly from me, do they do dog-injury forensics? I know they can, but do the vet clinic people have any opinions on the nature of the injuries?
Nobody wants to create an innocent martyr, in which life would imitate Annie's art. At worst, at this point, Rusty may have to become an only dog for a while until he can get some kind of professional evaluation. I still find it impossible to believe that the same gentle dog who became the 27-year-old cat's protector and the puppy's nanny could possess the ferocity of whatever or whoever attacked Annie.
