Prayers for Annie, please.
Annie is in emergency surgery right now.
After Lizbit's puppy school class, we came home to discover red all over the carpet. I thought the other dogs had gotten into something with a lot of red food coloring and either spilled it, or eaten it and thrown up. While I was puzzling over the mess, Annie got up and stood next to me. I was horrified to discover that she looked like she'd been attacked by a bear. She had an enormous round gouge on her back, about the size and depth of a large cereal bowl. Other wounds are on her neck and at least one leg. The red was blood.
I don't know what happened. She walked to the car and got in by herself. I drove her directly to the emergency animal clinic, where the staff started moving fast. When I left her, the vet staff was marveling at how tough she was. She hadn't complained yet.
Because the emergency center is not staffed during the day, I am supposed to pick her up early in the morning to transport her to her regular vet where she can receive attention around the clock.
Please think good thoughts for her. She's already been through so much.

Please tell Annie that she's not permitted to start across the Rainbow Bridge until she finishes her opera.

That's it. My prayer list is now full. Annie, between Cal's familial losses, and all the other 2-leggers I've got prayers in for, I'm just going to have to order you to get better soon, since you're putting me over the top, prayer-wise.
Your mom has been through enough in the last year or so. So just get better, huh? Please?
Good dog.

Annie, you were not supposed to be acting out Sweeney Todd!
Get well soon!

Don't do this to me. I'm like KT, just being pushed over the edge with this bit of news. Please, Annie, we know you're strong and can pull through this.
Keep us informed as to how she's doing. I probably won't sleep a wink until I know she's OK. Take care of yourself as well, SC. I'm praying hard for both of you.

Sorry to hear about Annie. I also hope you can discover the cause so that it won't occur again.

My heart aches for Annie, and doubly so for her Mommy, who had to find her like that, and have the courage and wherewithal to get her the help she needed so quickly.
We'll be praying for you all.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I don't know what happened, but I must face the possibility -- perhaps the probability -- that it somehow involved a fight with Rusty, as the three dogs (Annie, Rusty and Irish) were inside the house together, with no doggie door to let them out or another critter in. What this might mean for Rusty's future is equally unknown. Annie and Lizbit will be kept away from him for at least the immediate future.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:OMG! What do you think happened? Was it one of the other dogs, or is she able to go in and out of the house?
She's going to be ok!
An irrational side of me still wants to believe that some sumbitch broke into the house and hurt Annie while she was defending the place. I have not found a broken window or unlocked door, however.
Right now, I'm waiting until time to go to the emergency center and transfer her to the regular vet clinic with 24-hour staffing. I received no phone calls during the night, so I'm assuming that means "so far, so good." God knows, she has proven repeatedly that her will to live is immense.
Thank you to everyone for your good wishes.

I'm never good at these kinds of things, so I usually don't say anything at all. Especially since I'm all emotional right now. I feel as though I know Annie and, even if I didn't, the way you love her is a beautiful thing.
I'm glad I read the update at the same time as the original message, I agree with you that no news means good things. I'm also thankful that your weather was such that you were able to get her to care so fast.
