Kennedy Center Honors Show

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Wed Dec 26, 2007 10:16 pm

Shows like tonight's Kennedy Center Honors make me glad I'm not married to any one single liking. How many shows can you watch that give you DeNiro being funny, Steve Martin being semi-serious, some great Motown, some wonderful Beethoven (Annie should have been watching that, instead of getting hurt!), and Lyle Lovett and Hootie and the Blowfish (!) kickin' ass with some Beach Boys tunes?

Simply terrific stuff (and the Lyle Lovett version of "God Only Knows" was especially wonderful).
There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Do they ever rerun these? I was all psyched to watch, having finally remembered it was on before the show, when the problem with Midnight came up.

If these aren't available on video, they should be. The career retrospectives and the tribute performances are keepers for all the honorees, and worth watching over and over again.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

But would it have killed them to dress up a bit for the occasion?

The clothes they wore were reminiscent of what The Beach Boys wore on the cover of their first album

No problem. I love The Beach Boys, and especially admire the creativity of Brian Wilson. My wife is a total Beach Boys fan. It is nice to see Wilson finally getting some props after all these years. For too long, I think he was very underrated, compared to the other giants of the era.

It makes me glad I'm not married to anyone who has to watch the Kennedy Center Honours. Ha!

Not slamming, just riffing on your opening line. It's funny how people will see things exactly the opposite. You see the KCH is on and say "YAY!" I see the KCH is on and say "YAY! Criminal Minds isn't on tonight so I can watch the rest of the Nuggets game without switching back and forth."

People wearing funny ribbons or Marcus Camby getting a triple double? I'll take the latter, please!

I know, I'm such a Philistine with no class or appreciation for the arts. It's part of my charm. Ha!
