Must we let another discussion get turned into a political personal member-measuring, fecal matter stirring and throwing contest? I mean, come on.

I'm really not sure what you mean by that. Ummm, I have no member.chad1m wrote:Must we let another discussion get turned into a political personal member-measuring,
I sincerely believe celebs should not have been allowed to play for political charities. She was already playing for a non-political charity--why not give all the $ to that one?

Folks, I groan more than most people when I see math-phobic people. I also groan more than most people when I see people who are self-destructing out of a total inability to help themselves. And I have absolutely no respect for Patricia Heaton as a person after her horrendous performance (not that I had much before from what little I knew of her as a person). BUT, I disagree with everyone here's evaluation of how her performance played on TV. I think that Mr. and Mrs. Average America were probably engaged by her performance. It made them feel GREAT to watch her stumble and stutter over a question. And then the way Regis bailed her out in very typical Regis fashion made good television. So, on balance, I thought her performance, while a bad Millionaire performance, made for good television. In some ways, it was the best of the celebrity performances from a television-friendly perspective.

What was that she said it was, a murder of....hummingbirds?

Speaking of murder, it was murder watching the end of the show.

I don't know if I heard it right, but I thought I heard her say she's been to Ohio State so she's not that smart? I go to U of I and being a Big 10 rivalry, sports wise I'd say screw em

Ok I didn't hear that part, I just heard the part about going to Ohio State and not being smart. Probably didn't hear the second part since my family and I were discussing our shock about what she just said after she said it. And this is why I find your comments to be reprehensible. While I would agree that having a charity that is political is a Bad Idea (though looking at their website, these guys seem pretty tame), what you say here goes beyond that stance.Odyssey wrote:Oh no, I disagree completely. BTW, I am very pro-life. I'm about the life of the potential mother, which is the only life that everyone can agree actually is a life.
I think Patricia left her anti-abortion/anti-woman mark all over her performance tonight.
She was bad, but it had nothing to do with being "anti-woman/anti-abortion".
I'll let your easily-dissected "life of the mother" comment go for now.
Because someone's against abortion doesn't make them a member of a cult, nor does it mean that they can't answer a trivia question on TV. I'd go so far to suggest that someone who actually thinks that about those who oppose abortion need to take a step back and think about things a bit. I won't go so far as to say that someone who thinks that is somehow a wacko, or couldn't answer a trivia question on TV.

Are you frakking kidding me? There's a moment that will live in Millionaire infamy. Again, infinite props to Michael Davies for helping to drive a stake through celebrity Millionaire. Unfortunately, I think any chance of modifying the clock also just left the building.
That was a good question 6 for a contestant with the clock. Without a clock, that should have been a question 3 or 4.
I'm sorry for all of you that watched that abomination in person. The torture you underwent is banned by the Geneva Convention. I'd be looking to bring Patricia Heaton up on war crimes charges.

I still like the idea mentioned on this bored before and they should do a version of what they do in Texas Hold Em, instead of giving power to the fellow players like in poker, give the power of the clock to the audience where if they feel they had enough, vote to put a clock on the contestant and when enough votes are reached, activate the clock.15QuestionsAway wrote:Are you frakking kidding me? I'd be happy if they went to 20-40-60s, and allowed the time bank to be used in finite amounts starting with question 12. For example, a max of 20 extra seconds on question 12, etc. I don't hate the clock as much as others here.ten96lt wrote:I still like the idea mentioned on this bored before and they should do a version of what they do in Texas Hold Em, instead of giving power to the fellow players like in poker, give the power of the clock to the audience where if they feel they had enough, vote to put a clock on the contestant and when enough votes are reached, activate the clock.
I'm really irritated by the Patricia Heaton performance because she didn't even try to solve the problem, and apparently wasn't even familiar with the rules of the game. I don't begrudge ABC wanting to promote their lineup. However, the network should at least try to get their celebrities to understand and play the game.

It happened almost immediately after Heaton's performance. There was a youngster, maybe 10 or so (other bbs feel free to correct me) who was in a wheelchair with his parents. Regis went over to talk to him and he was given a Texas Longhorn tie (crikey, I came 3,000 miles to see this?!?!) and Regis put it on. Somewhere Regis asked the boy a question about Nascar and he got it right and earned a million (?) for the charity. This definitely was an upbeat ending.

I don't think any actual money was won. I think it was just a role playing thing, where the sick kid got to live out his fantasy and be in the hot seat at the studio with Regis. I don't because I still get 50 minutes of primetime Millionaire goodness each night. If the celebrity segment was the price to pay to get these 10th anniversary primetime shows on, I can deal with it. As I said in another thread, I have a pretend horn that goes off in my head when Regis starts to wind down the carryover contestant. The show's over for me mentally at that commercial break.hbomb1947 wrote:I begrudge that very much when it crosses the line into something that changes a show I actually care about into a WGAS commercial.
I've watched the celebrity segments anyway, and they've ranged from mildly annoying to mildly interesting. It's ABC's show and they want to push a little product for one segment, fine.
But Patricia Heaton literally gave me a headache. I'm still reeling from the celebrity segment being used as a weapon against me.

It was painful to us because we respect intelligence and she obviously either had none or refused to use it. Also, we're aware that she took about 20 minutes on the question. But I don't think most of the at-home audience will care about that. What they'll see is her taking a few minutes on the question, offering to pay her charity out of her own pocket, and then persevering through adversity to work her way to the right answer. --Bob

I don't know this particular organization, but I'd be very surprised if ABC were willing to contribute money to a charity that doesn't qualify for tax-deductible status. If I'm right about that, then the organization can't do electoral campaigning. I'm not even sure a qualified charity is allowed to do issue advertising. --BobOdyssey wrote:Her lips look weird.

WTH didn't they air that then?!?!?!? I would have rather watched the kid win a fake million and see his excitement rather then the celebrity performance tonight. Did they put the question on the monitor with clock and confetti and music and lights and everything or was it just Regis talking to the kid on the side? I remember seeing on Access Hollywood one time a little girl got her game show wish from Make a Wish and got to play Deal or No Deal for her favorite prize (I think in the end she won all of the prizes since Howie said if she had the case with her favorite prize, she'd get all of them.) so was wondering if they simulated it or if it was just a basic meet and greet with Regis. I think more people would have rather watched the child's wish come true (even though he didn't really win a million) then the celebrity segment. Better yet, instead of having PH, they should have aired the Make a Wish segment and given the $50,000 (for getting the NASCAR question right) to Make a Wish.TheConfessor wrote:I don't think any actual money was won. The crew had already gone on break (it was a long taping), so they didn't have the computer or the dramatic lights available when Regis had the kid in the hot seat. I'm not even sure which cameras they had running, if any. But I do think it was a special moment, for the kid, the kid's family, and for those of us in the audience who got to witness it.ten96lt wrote:

The problem that occurs with highly emotional issues like this is that passions (and the belief that their particular views are correct) run extremely high on both sides of the issue, which leads some on the fringes of both sides to engage in disruptive behavior.NellyLunatic1980 wrote: I agree with Dan here. I've seen the anti-abortion protesters picketing outside the clinic near my bank. I don't think I could put up with either the weather conditions or the abuse from passers-by that they endure, peaceably. I disagree with what they say but I admire the courage of their convictions.
