I had sympathy for Michael adding the clock after that.
But he didn't add the clock for celebrities. No real contestant would get away with what she did. Your recollection matches mine. Probably about 15 to 20 minutes total, with a lot of whining about what an unfair question it was. Several rounds of sarcastic audience applause could be heard on the show tonight. Most people were genuinely annoyed, and Heaton didn't do herself any favors when she chose to call her husband instead of asking the audience, all of whom had already done the math about ten minutes earlier.

But would it have been a Russian audience?

PS Probably not, because it would be Patricia's charities that would have been screwed, not her.

She was introduced as the star of the "hit" new ABC show "The Middle." How can a show that has never been broadcast already be a hit? Tonight's cross promotion certainly won't attract any viewers.
And I dare say that I was not inspired tonight to go out and buy any books by noted author Jodi Picoult.
Books? Did you say Books???

I gotcher "Books" right here!!!!!

And yes, my kids had that book. The edition with the picture of the kettling raptors on the cover.

Has she seen this show before? I could conceivably say that 99.5% of all contestants have gotten an unfair question. And most have gotten one worth $50,000.

I'm pretty sure I heard us groaning out of sheer frustration with the Phone A Friend decision. I'm just so happy I chose to sit in that non-camera area. I couldn't have hid my frustration.

They had an unbelievably touching moment with a child from Make A Wish shortly after, I do believe. Even cold relatively emotionless me found is outstanding. I wish they could have found some way to do something with him on the show instead of wasting time with Patricia. It would have been a better TV moment.

Would you burn them in a kettle?

And what venue would you choose?

Having an inanimate carbon rod sitting motionless in the hot seat for 10 minutes would have been a better TV moment than watching Patricia Heaton demonstrate her suckitude.

You're right. The kid from the Make A Wish Foundation would have made 1000% better television than Patricia Heaton. It was amazing how quickly the mood inside the studio changed from hostility to affection when Regis took a few extra minutes to interact with the kid and his family, after Heaton finally left. I think even the most jaded and impatient people in the audience found it a heartwarming moment that they were happy to witness.

Was she drunk, or just plain pathetic?

That was embarrassing to watch. Her new show will probably be the same.

With that kind of math anxiety, wouldn't you love to be her accountant, handling her finances?

Whoever said this was a $4000 question was overvaluing it. It wouldn't be that high on "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?"
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Sure! Because fly-over country people are just nicer than folks on the coast, and they're certainly not exaggerated in the slightest, as shown by that tasteful commercial.

Too bad one BB who wisely turned off the set (based on her prior posts here) is the one BB who would most likely appreciate the segment.

OMG, MAAATHHH!!! This is sooooo hard.

At least the show did a great job editing it down to merely painful. Live it was MUCH worse. Even allowing for math anxiety and hotseat jitters, I've never seen such a train wreck!

Of course, it wouldn't have been so painful if the celebrity contestants were subject to THE SAME DAMN CLOCK that regular contestants have to deal with!

But then TPTB would have to find celebrities that need to plug their new show AND have functioning brain cells.
(I'll just hope that maybe viewers will be talking about that mangled mess tomorrow at the office, and generate some additional buzz for the show.)

Very good, VAdame.

I'm pretty peeved this was allowed. Are they going to bring on a celebrity with an abortion-rights charity now?

What? Pro-lifers aren't allowed on game shows?

Should they be forced to have a mark on their homes and businesses too?

I don't think political charities have a place on gameshows.

BTW, I am very pro-life. I'm about the life of the potential mother, which is the only life that everyone can agree actually is a life.

I think Patricia left her anti-abortion/anti-woman mark all over her performance tonight.

I think you're letting your dislike for her political opinion color your perceptions.

She was bad, but it had nothing to do with being "anti-woman/anti-abortion".

I'll let your easily-dissected "life of the mother" comment go for now.

Oh no, I disagree completely. Her performance is EXACTLY what I would expect from someone involved with her cult, er charity.
