My Mom's Christmas tradition and my Uncle George

#1 Post by fuzzywuzzy » Thu Dec 20, 2007 8:46 am

When I was growing up, my Nana & Uncle lived with us. My Nana & I shared a room, and my brother & my Uncle George shared a room. George, was more like my big brother, since he was only 9 years older than me. And, my Mom basically raised him, since, my grandparents were never home due to their work. George went everywhere with my Mom.

George loved Christmas!

He would help my Mom decorate the house, and put lights outside of our home. We used to have a beautiful large fir tree in our front yard. Every year, George would get out the big ladder, and put the lights on the tree. One year, he lost his footing, and fell into the tree! He was laughing the whole time, and not hurt at all!

As I got older, George would play Santa at any event you asked him to go to! He was a totally giving and selfless person. He even would show up after midnight mass and greet everyone as they left the church with his hardy (and liquor enhanced) Ho, Ho, Hos!

Once the mass was over, and the organ music stopped, you could hear George Ho, hoing! My Mom would get embarrased since she knew it was George!

In 1988, George passed away at the tender age of 36. Ever since then, my Mom makes sure that the house is decked out, just the way her brother/son George would have liked it. To honor George.

I miss him so much...but, know that he is always with me!

In fact, something that I never told any of you.

George's nickname was fuzzy. That is why I chose fuzzywuzzy as my bb moniker. I guess that's my way of honoring him!

Happy Holidays!

What a great story, fuzzy! It brought a tear to my eye. Sometimes it seems that the best among us are taken too soon.

This is the sweetest and most loving tribute anyone could ever have. Thank you for letting us share your memories of George.

I will think of him the next time I hear a "Ho, ho, ho!"

Wonderful story, fuzzy. And how wonderful you can bring him to mind everywhere you look this time of year, especially with the trend toward more outdoor decorating.

OMG, I will take a digital photo of the outside of my parents home tomorrow so that you all can see how decked out it really is!

Going to bed...

Goodnight...
