SURVIVOR Observations (no spoiler)
I never watched Survivor, but my cousin's kids do and they wanted me to watch with them.
I was really surprised at how easy the challenges seem. I always thought the challenges would be like participating in a triathlon: physically difficult. It seems that if you can walk blind-folded, hold dishes or put a puzzle together, you could win. It seems like an awfully easy way to win a million dollars.
Mentally, you can go far just by lying.
They should call it Starving, because Courtney sure looked scary. (Thank goodness she looked better at the reunion.)

Male or female, thin people always look better with clothes on. My theory is that when rounded people realize that they have the edge at skin level, society will demand even more nudity.dimmzy wrote:

Re: SURVIVOR Observations (no spoiler)
I think she said she weighed 94 pounds when she started the game. Given how much weight they lose during the experience, that's not a good beginning. (And they were almost unrecognizable in the reunion show!)dimmzy wrote: They should call it Starving, because Courtney sure looked scary. (Thank goodness she looked better at the reunion.)
I had to groan when Jeff mentioned that Todd was 14 when Survivor premiered.

Jeff Probst once said that he was surprised that contestants didn't work with a nutritionist before they left home so that they would be in peak physical shape. A contestant, though, said in an interview that she had only a week's notice before she left so that didn't give her much time to do everything else she needed to do before leaving.I think she said she weighed 94 pounds when she started the game. She looked like an Auschwitz Survivor. I watched the finale and it was painful to look at her arms.dimmzy wrote:I never watched Survivor, but my cousin's kids do and they wanted me to watch with them.

I agree with PSM about the Auschwitz look, but I did not mind, Courtney was able to allow me to win 2nd place in our bank pool--$50.

Random drawing for our player and I thought after the first couple of shows she would be gone early--I still don't know how she survived--both physically and in the game.

Spoiler
I was amazed that she beat Amanda for votes. Amanda seemed to be a more likeable person.

Spoiler
I don't think any of the jury voted on likeability. Todd beat Amanda in the backstabbing/scheming competition, while Courtney picked up the votes from the "Don't Reward the Backstabbers" minority.

Spoiler
I thought Amanda did very poorly in the final tribal, while Todd did very well and Courtney did what she had always done, she was just kind of there (although as noted there wasn't that much of her there!). I can't help but think that Todd's upbest and positive affect in the final tribal got him votes. Amanda did often look doe eyed and down trodden, not a very positive image. The fact that Todd embraced his "scheme-iness" with such enthusiasm seemed to work for him.
But to Amanda's credit she knew Todd not only was a schemer and would get votes for that, he was almost a likeable schemer, or so it seemed.
We don't always get to see a lot of that on the show, or at least I didn't. But it seemed to make a difference.

`Survivor: China' lunch lady apologizes for remarks on season
finale of CBS reality show

NEW YORK (AP) -- A school lunch lady who gained fame as a
contestant on CBS' reality show "Survivor: China" wasn't telling
the truth when she claimed during Sunday's season finale that she'd
been demoted to janitor, her boss says.
Denise Martin of Douglas, Mass., finished fourth in the
competition, missing out on the $1 million grand prize.
"They didn't give me my job back," Martin, 40, said during the
live broadcast. "I'm a janitor now. I clean the toilets. I wash
the floors in the bathrooms. I vacuum the kids' rugs."
Producer Mark Burnett surprised Martin with $50,000 to help get
her life back. But Martin may have some damage control to do when
she returns to work.
In an interview Tuesday on CBS' "The Early Show," Douglas
Schools Superintendent Nancy Lane said Martin had been promoted, at
her own request, to custodian in late March, a job that came with
more benefits and higher pay.
"We granted her a leave to go to participate in `Survivor.' And
did everything possible to support her," Lane said. "And when she
returned, she of course returned to the position that she left.
Which is the custodial position."
"That's perfectly accurate, yes," Martin said in response.
Martin said she decided while she was taping "Survivor" that
she wanted to go back to her lunch lady job. Lane said the job was
no longer available, but Martin could apply when there is an
opening.
"It was not my intention to be misleading," Martin said. "I'm
sorry and I apologize to everybody."
Will she accept the $50,000 if it is still offered to her?
"I had no idea that I was going to be awarded that," she said.
"I did not do this for myself, I've done this for my family, I've
done this for my town."
Margaret Reed, chairwoman of the School Committee, said she was
puzzled by Martin's story.
"Everyone was cheering her on," Reed said. "And then we get
this slap in the face."

Re: SURVIVOR Observations (no spoiler)
If it was just a matter of going there for the day a participating in the challenges then, yes, I can see how that could be seen as being 'easy.' However, try doing them when you have been deprived of decent food for days or weeks and living out in the conditions they do for days or weeks. They may not seem as easy then.dimmzy wrote:I never watched Survivor, but my cousin's kids do and they wanted me to watch with them.

I am curious to find out who the past favorites are that will be competing in February's installment. They said that one of the members of this group would be in that challenge and I can only assume that it would be James. Who would be other fan favorites? Rupert? Johnny Fairplay? Ethan? Rob and Amber (NOOOO, not again!!)? Rudy? Ozzie? Yow Man?

Hey Saucy!
I guess I am OK with this list since it is just speculation but it might have benifited from a bit of spoilage for those who didn't want to know in advance. Although perhaps not that many on this bored that worried about it...
Just sayin'!
A fair number I just vaguely recognize and I have seen every episode. Looks like they are sticking to the more recent episodes if this is true. Only Johnny Fairplay comes from way back although Vanuatu is also going back a bit. Most if not all made at least the jury. Penner I remember is the actor that kind of sounded like Alan Alda.
It also seems to imply that it will have 20 cast members since there 10 here and the other tribe will be made up of self described "super fans" of the show.
