Hey if someone wants to google during the online test, that's their choice. I, however, wouldn't want to get on a game show by looking up the answers and look like a complete idiot on camera. I always wonder, when I watch if the people that miss one of the first few questions, if they are just nervous or maybe they cheated off their trivia savvy friends test and then got lucky enough to pass the interview.
Hey look at the bright side, I got $25,000 by using Google and looking like an idiot on camera.
And ya know what? I'm okay with it...

No there isn't. Not anymore. The ethos of TOPG is so far from what the show has become . . . Even the Regis version . . .

The website for the network show now mentions the video auditions.

But your PAF is allowed to google. I think the problem here is that people could pass the test by googling or having someone google the answers while you're taking the online test. This is akin to having someone do TOPG for you. Get to the ROF and maybe get lucky with a FF and get to the hotseat.
I would never want to do it that way but there were strong suspicions (Jeremy anyone?) of some having done this.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

But like Booboola said, you can cheat off someone during the regular test too. None of it is foolproof, people are just choosing to complain about the aspect that they like least, and pretending that it's because people can cheat.

So, here is what I wonder.
Could it be that the people who have already been in the hot seat look at opportunities differently?
Could it be that people who have already been in the hot seat don't care about new ways that are given for others to make it?
Could it be that people who have already been in the hot seat don't appreciate the struggle of those who have been rejected more than a few times?
Could it be that people who have already been in the hot seat are stoopid?
Here is what is true for me (as one of the people I think gsn didn't want to name):
1. I want each of you who want a chance to have a chance (yes, even ghost)
2. I think that if one method has failed for you, then an alternate method is better than no alternate method.
3. I think defeatism will strongly decrease your chances of making the cut.
4. I think that what I have to say is discounted because I made the cut and you think I don't get it.
5. I think each of you have the ability to be any way you commit to for 3 minutes - you can be perky for 3 minutes, you can be funny for 3 minutes, you can be interesting for 3 minutes - you can all fake anything for 3 minutes. You can't if you think you can't, you can't if you say you can't and you can't if you say you won't.
6. I will never surrender on you all.

Actually, I
was on the show. From an audition, of all things. The Prime Time show. Obviously, I did not win my 2 FFs.
Few who passed an audition for "ROF contestant" passed it
again for "put right into the seat on Syndi". Silvercam did that. Anyone else?
Lots of people have. From my RoF group alone, three were selected for SyndiBAM -- me, Amaz, and a guy from L.A. named Alex, who was on one of the very first syndicated shows.
I'll add another.... Jason Key, who was one of the three in my audition interview group who along with me was selected for one of the January 2001 shows. He didn't make the Hot Seat then, but resurfaced a few years later on SyndieBAM......

I guess that depends on the person and why they think they were not selected.
What if a person has great stories but gets really nervous in interviews and could not get their thoughts across....or maybe they were tired or sick or preoccupied with other issues. Maybe said person will be excited about this method, in that they will be able to practice and get their stories out in the best way possible. Maybe that person does not feel they are rejected based on their entire personality, but based on a 2 minute segment of their life where they may not have performed as well as they wanted to. Maybe we should be more encouraging of these people and not shit on their parade. Maybe?
This is an excellent point. The stress of taking the test and passing it, then waiting for an interview, may be a stumbling block that this method can overcome. One could be more relaxed in a home video than under the pressure of an audition.

Yes, but that may mean s/he will melt down in the HS.

Maybe not, because the hot seat is not only a personality test. It is a knowledge test under lights.

I don't think you can predict who will and who won't. Case in point, don't remember his name, but he was an editor at the Boston Globe. Great guy - outgoing, smart, funny, etc. I'm sure he interviewed well. He was talking all day in the green room. Then got in the hot seat and BAM! You wouldn't have seen it on tv, it was edited down, but he had a total melt down and was staring at the screen for almost 10 minutes. He got the "answer or use a lifeline or get disqualified" warning from Rich.
Someone who is nervous in interviews will not necessarily be nervous on the show. I am personally nervous as anything in front of cameras - I think because I hate the way I look and sound on tv. But I got over that because there was money on the line.
My long winded point being, just because someone preps for an audition tape vs having an off the cuff in person interview with a 23 year old doesn't mean they can't or won't do well later.

I really don't get how having an alternate way to get on the show can not be a good thing. Maybe not a way you want, but having an alternate way has got to be better than not having an alternate way.

I don't want to get involved in a sarcasm fight with you, sunflower.
If there is some optimistic BB whose parade we've shat on, I'll apologize to him or her. But, having been on this quest for somewhat longer than you were, the veteran auditioners tend to fall in one of two categories:
1. Those who continue to pursue a forlorn hope.
2. Those whose discouragement has led them to stop tilting at windmills.

Okay I'm in a bad mood because I got a speeding ticket on my way to work.
But my point is, a little more positivity might help. Why don't you embrace it and put your energy into coming up with something creative instead of just naysaying it right off the bat. I know you've had a long and hard road, and I'm sorry. But this is something you haven't tried yet, so how do you know??? You don't!!!! I don't want to fight either, I want you to turn that frown upside down and start making a video!!!

People are making LOADS of assumptions re: the online test, based on the only informationwe have of it- that it's being offered in a three-hour time window.
That means, you can start the test anytime in that three hours.
That does NOT mean you will be allowed the entire three hours to take the test.
My guess is, there will be a pretty tight time window to take the test.
Also that random tests will be administered during that three-hour window, so not everyone will get the same test.

I did a video for
Power of Ten.
I got invited to Atlantic City for an audition based off that video.
Before that, I had crashed and burned at two WWTBAM auditions.
Believe me, being able to script and edit makes a big difference in presentation.
I probably will do this. Seems like fun.

It was my understanding that they tell you when to start the written test once you pass the video portion of the process to get into the Video Submission Pool.

I don't know that assumption is true either...it sounds like the time will be assigned, so there will probably be multiple sessions within that 3 hours and test takers will be in one specific session.
Persons selected to take the test will be notified by email and given the test site URL and time of their test session.
I agree with everything else you said, though.

Online Test
The online test will be given on Friday, July 17, 2009 between the hours of 7 PM ET and 10 PM ET. Persons selected to take the test will be notified by email and given the test site URL and
time of their test session. The notification will be sent to the email address provided for this purpose during the video submission process. People who receive a passing score on the test will be put into the Pool.
