Nice presentation, Jeff. I watched the whole thing but didn't stick around for the guy who talked about bombs. I noticed it has the tag "howto" which makes me wonder who's more likely to watch this -- people who want to create mayhem or people who want to ameliorate it after it happens. I think you said some of the people in the Russian theater may have died of aspiration. I thought aspiration was a good thing. What does that mean, in this context?
The video was a few seconds out of sync with the voice at some points. Also, I thought YouTube had a maximum clip length of 10 minutes, but this one was over 40 minutes. Has YouTube changed its rules?

IANAD but I believe that when you get vomitus in your lungs.TheConfessor wrote: I think you said some of the people in the Russian theater may have died of aspiration. I thought aspiration was a good thing. What does that mean, in this context?
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Aspiration in this context usually means the introduction of any foreign substance into the respiratory system, usually resulting in some degree of physical distress. Emesis is certainly one particularly unpleaseant and technicolor aspirant. But it could be food, water or even the persons own bodily secretions. That may have been the case in the Russian terrorist incident but I don't know the details.themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:IANAD but I believe that when you get vomitus in your lungs.TheConfessor wrote: I think you said some of the people in the Russian theater may have died of aspiration. As I recall it was an aerosolized anesthetic so people basically passed out and could have choked on their own secretions or vomit. But there was a lot more to that incident that is still not well known (or at least that I certainly don't know!) and the hostages did not get rapid medical attention.
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.

FWIW, I just found out about this lecture being posted on YouTube today, when I stumbled upon it during a slow moment at work.
I knew that I had signed some sort of waiver, allowing the university to tape the lecture (given a couple of years ago), but hadn't had the urge to find a copy of it.
It's kind of funny how it's listed as a "How To" video.
The description of "aspiration" above is correct; I was referring to inhaling vomit into one's lungs...which is a BAD thing, by the way. You might have been confusing "aspiration" with "respiration", Ed, which can refer either to act of breathing in and out, or the chemical process in the mitochondria where ATP is produced and oxygen is converted into water as a by-product.

Definitely a different side of Jeff's personality than we usually see here on the Bored.
Hmmm. Will DHS be investigating all of us now to determine which group we fit into?TheConfessor wrote:I noticed it has the tag "howto" which makes me wonder who's more likely to watch this -- people who want to create mayhem or people who want to ameliorate it after it happens.

I had aspirations of driving an Aspire, but maybe I should pass on that if Jeff says it could kill me. You've got to admire Ford for their truth in advertising, if "Aspire" means "it sucks."

I don't think you can respire unless you inspire and expire. But I'll aspire not to aspire what I ate.
I guess an ass-pirate is a whole different deal.
