Comments and tips would be most appreciated.
I am attempting to order blinds/window coverings for 16 of our 19 windows today. I have been working on this for two weeks attempting to decide. SO - here's the money question.....
Do you feel that all windows facing the street should have the same appearance? Also, do you feel it is okay to change type of window coverings from room to room in a very open floor plan type house?
Do you prefer 2" wood blinds, roman shades or cellular shades or curtains?
Our home is a very soft contemporary (the furniture) yet traditional type new build 5 level split. Our walls are cream, our trim is white. We have dark cherry wood floors in half the main level and the rest of the floors are frosty cream shag type carpeting. Bathrooms have stone tile in natural cream colors. The scale of the house is overly large and grand with freakin' columns in the main foyer and I am looking to soften and cozy it up a bit.
Advice? Rants? Thoughts? Care to share?

I do not believe that all windows facing the street should have the same appearance unless the home-owner is obsessive-compulsive and more concerned about the neighbors' view of the house than the people who live in the house.5LD wrote:Comments and tips would be most appreciated.

It's perfectly okay to change window coverings to meet the needs and mood of each room. I prefer whatever window coverings float your boat for the purposes you prefer. My personal opinion is that curtains "soften" more than any kind of shade, but shades and curtains can be combined, too.
The house sounds magnificent. May the dogs and I live with you?

SC - you would help make it feel warmer for sure. It needs two and four footers running around to make it feel like it's a home.
We refer to it as the cave right now.....When the sun goes down the house gets colder. We don't have enough in here and the whole place echoes. It just feels too big and too drafty. We are used to tiny hot apartments....

Most of hte windows facing the street in my house have the same dressing - but only because plantation blinds made the most sense. I love the woodwork surrounding my windows and dint want to cover it. I think it's fine to change window dressing from space to space - as long as the complete look is cohesive.
I think you should get Mindy Paige to bring some friends over and lend a hand, if you are feeling overwhelmed.

I have a call in to Minders asking her advice as well. 
She's already shooting new episodes so I am not sure when I will get her opinion and if I order the blinds today they arrive a day or two after Christmas so I don't much want to delay beyond today.....I know, I am putting my own pressure on myself. But I also think that once the blinds are up we will lose less heat at night so I am anxious.

no. As a matter of fact, when I look at a house from the outside, I prefer that they be different. I like getting the feel of each room from the outside and if they are all the saem, I have no feel.
