Dead or Alive? Game 14 12/14/07

Dead or Alive? Game 14

And we reach the halfway point of this month’s game. Identify the following people as Dead or Alive. Then take a guess at the theme. Today’s theme was one word in my notes. You may have noticed (or maybe not) that the past week contained some names that were not so well-known, but the themes were fairly easy. For the rest of the month (after today), I hope to get a little more creative with the themes, and some additional bonus points will be available. I’ll let you know about those in the instructions to each day’s game.

1. Herb Ritts
2. Walker Evans
3. Helmut Newton
4. Robert Frank
5. Henri Cartier-Bresson
6. Richard Avedon
7. William Wegman
8. Gordon Parks
9. Annie Leibovitz
10. Anne Geddes

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Not many familiar names so if it is going to get harder I am in trouble...

5. Henri Cartier-Bresson D?
6. Richard Avedon D?
7. William Wegman A?

Well, using the last two, whose status were the only two I was somewhat sure of, I managed to at least make a nice pattern...

Probably don't need to use a spoiler, as most of these answers are likely wrong, but....

I saw Leibovitz and Geddes at the end and then Frank out of the corner of my eye above and thought Oh boy!! Frank Hurley!! Alas. But in honor of Hurley, I decided to play anyway. I just alternated until I got to 9 and 10 -- pretty sure they're both alive.
