12-11 SUCK IT, TREBEK

Yes, I realize with this crowd that a game show category might be a bit of a laugh. So these are game shows that I remember watching with my grandma. If you know how old I am, that might help you out. Ha! If you hadn’t figured it out yet, none of the answers are “Double Dare” or “High Rollers”.

1. Probably my Grandma’s favourite, and mine as well, it involved Tom Kennedy and car keys.

SPLIT SECOND

Snoopy made gave me the biggest laugh of the day. Although it conjured up disturbing images of my grandma and Tom Kennedy at a key party.

2. It seems this one was showed later in the day, after we were already back home. They say celebrities are treated like pieces of meat. In this instance, it was more like horse meat.

CELEBRITY SWEEPSTAKES

The best part of this was when they showed the odds on the celebrities' tote boards. They were constantly dissing Carol Wayne and she kept showing them up. (Did they ever solve her murder? Or even figure out how exactly she died?)

3. Another early evening show, this one combined two winning elements: Beulah the Buzzer and contestant embarrassment.

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES

4. This one could get a little risqué for the time, it was sort of a cross between March Game and the Newlywed Game. Every day I’d pick my audience colour, usually aligning myself with whatever section Patti Deutsch was representing.

TATTLETALES

I always liked Patti Deutsch because she had good penmanship. Her husband was Donald Somebody and they used to call him some funny nickname that I can't remember (might have been "Fast Donald", which doesn't sound so funny, but I guess you had to be there).

5. I watched this one during the day when I was older and working graveyard shift. I liked it for the fast pace and no nonsense questions, not to mention Jim Perry haggling like a fishwife.

SALE OF THE CENTURY

Probably my all time favourite, Jim Perry was darn near the perfect host (there was some female sidekick too, but I can't remember her name).

QOD: Bob Barker got The Price is Right gig when it was decided that this game show host was not up the physical demands of the job.

BILL CULLEN

Peacock was right about the polio thing and that he was always seated on his game shows (I was partial to 3 on a Match). When he was called back for the new Price is Right show, one of the producers Goodson or Todman, I guess, or was it Goodman and Todson?) decided that it required too much physical stuff for him.

5 Point Bonus: Name one of the original models on The Price is Right (Bob Barker version).

5 Point Bonus Bonus: Name the other one.

JANICE PENNINGTON AND ANITRA FORD

Yay to Nelly for being the only one to get Anitra Ford! I liked her the best. She was in some movie, I think with John Saxon, that I really liked. Funny how so many people said Holly, I don't even know who that is, I only remember Janice, Anitra and Dian Parkinson.

Her husband is Donald Ross, a comedy writer. They're still married after 35 years. A running joke on "Tattletales" is that he's known as "Fast Donald" cuz he's always the first to reach for the check at a restaurant.

Summer Bartholomew, a former Miss South Carolina and substitute hostess on "Wheel of Fortune"

Wow, you don't remember Holly Hallstrom? She was the red-headed model from 1977-95. You might remember her many bloopers on the show, ranging from tripping over motorcycles to appliance door mishaps to screens falling over on her.

Maybe this site will jog your memory: http://www.angelfire.com/fl5/tpir0/holly.html

Thank you! I knew there was some joke behind it, but I couldn't remember what it was.

Oh, the years explains it. By that time I was in school and and wasn't at my grandma's in the morning to watch her shows with her and I was old enough to stay home during the summer.

She was also the one who initiated the sexual harrassment suit against Bob Barker, IIRC. Janice and Dian were asked to testify and claimed later that they were fired for testifying on Holly's behalf.
