Columbine plan in Philly suburb

#1 Post by mellytu74 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:16 pm

This story is on Anderson Cooper 360 right now.

I didn't realize this made the national news.

I should have realized it would because it's a 14 YO with a copy of The assissin's Handbook and an assault rifle that his mother bought for him at a gun show a couple of weeks ago. Much of the rest of his "arsenal" consisted of BB guns.

The HS involved is about a mile down the road from The Boyfriend's House, which is MY future house.

The tagline reads "upscale" suburb. I don't think of it as "upscale." So much so that I didn't realize they were talking about the same place.

Then I realized that a quarter of the school district is modest ranch houses and split-levels but three-quarters of the district is not.

That three-quarters is big, older houses and gated communities and McMansions, which we passed today on the way to the doctor's office.

It's very, very scary.

Yep, it made national new all right.

The last report I heard, they're probably going to charge the mother also.

A lot of credit should be given to the kid who the accuser tried to recruit in the plot. He told his dad, who called the police.

I am now just reading the stories on philly.com, so I am catching up on everthing.

Which one? Remember, I went to Norristown Area High School, and a chunk of my family still lives in the area, so I know the region. --Bob

It's Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, just east of Norristown.

Our rivals. When I was in high school, Norristown, P-W, and Abington High Schools all were in the hunt for the Suburban I league title in boys' basketball. You can read about the denouement in Sports in America by James Michener.

P-W was also the local power in wrestling, which I knew because I wrestled in junior high. --Bob

The kid's mother has been arrested for purchasing three weapons for him. The sense I'm getting from the little press coverage I've seen is that she was being truly stupid, rather than venal. --Bob
