Report here says that driver Quinn had citations on their driving record before being hired by the T under both their 1st names. Reports I had previously heard on TV claimed that the citations were under the "birth certificate" name only. And this report says that the citations, on their personal driving record, not their T record, weren't enough to bar them from driving a train for the T.
And by the way, Jeemie, whatever they are, they are certainly not an "it". There's absolutely no report of them being surgically rendered "it", & even if someone had such an operation, & wanted to & took "it"-rendering hormones (something only convicted sex-offenders agree to), they'd still be genetically male or female. Unless of course they were genetically a chimera, but we've had that discussion.

I phrased that badly. The firefighter-turned-pilot made an error which forced him to use a fortunately clear highway as a runway. Puddlejumper Airlines rounded up a transport, got the plane and pilot back to the airport, did an investigation, and put him back to work.MarleysGh0st wrote:Umm, some other pilot error which resulted in an emergency landing on a highway or pilot error of mistaking a highway for a runway?SportsFan68 wrote:Off topic a bit -- one of the local firefighters quit to become a pilot for Puddlejumper Airlines. He landed on a highway because of pilot error, and his bosses bought his explanation, wrote him up, and kept him on. Second time he did it, about a month later, he was fired before the airplane was back in the hangar.
Twice???
Then, a month later, the same firefighter-turned-pilot made another error which caused a second forced landing on another fortunately clear highway. I don't know if it was the same error; my guess is that it was. He was unemployed by the time the transport arrived to retrieve the airplane.

Oh yeah, I forgot -- yes, twice.MarleysGh0st wrote:

Even his best friend, who told me about it, thought he should have been fired the first time. However, as ghostjmf puts it, Puddlejumper's investment in the guy was not negligible.

Here are the particulars: elwing and the driving instructor were out on the road yesterday afternoon. The instructor told her to turn at the next corner. elwing did as instructed, but cut a little too sharply. On the edge of the road was a drainage ditch about 3' deep; next thing she knew the bus had gone into the ditch. No one was hurt, nor was there any damage to the bus. However the instructor had to report the "incident" and after some long deliberation, the company decided that this would not look good on them if elwing should have a real accident somewhere down the line, so they apologetically told her she was being dismissed. They are paying her air fare home. She doesn't have flight times yet but believes that she'll be getting back home somewhere in the wee hours tonight or early morning.
Oh boy! A job opportunity has opened up!

This story is a good example of why companies take precautions like this with employees responsible for transporting passengers...
http://www.gadling.com/2009/05/13/buffa ... plication/
Remember that plane crash in February, in Buffalo? There were 50 fatalities. Well, it turns out the pilot would have lost his job if he hadn't lost his life. Marvin Renlsow, who was a pilot for Colgan, reportedly falsified his job application by not disclosing two failures on flight tests in small planes. Had his supervisors known, he "would have been immediately dismissed."
Currently, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating whether the crew responded inappropriately to a stall warning ... as well as Colgan's hiring and training practices. Among the issues is whether unauthorized chatter among pilots and fatigue played roles in the crash. Renslow's copilot, Rebecca Shaw, flew from Seattle to Newark overnight, arriving the day of the accident and evidence suggests she wasn't able to get much sleep that day.
The plane, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 crashed in Clarence Center, New York en route from Newark, New Jersey to Buffalo. All 49 people on the plane died, along with on person on the ground.

NO WORRIES, Sunflower. The only time he ever pays attention to one of my suggestions is if he was already going to use it anyway.
No matter how much I lobby.
