I couldn't remember anything about Howard's appearance. If $250K winners now qualify as experts, shouldn't they have used Howard Johnson as one during Famous Names Week?

And for all his confidence on his answer, he didn't do a good job selling it. When he was saying it can't be any of the others, I wanted to ask him, "do have any idea what 'diastema' means?" How could he have such a strong hunch without that?

Based on the transcript alone, I'm thinking when he mentioned that you need 3 strikes in the final frame - Eric was thinking it must be 13 and didn't entirely trust Joe's answer since Joe said, he believed it was 3 strikes in the last frame he did the math wrong 10 frames plus 3 = 13 when it should be 9 frames + 3 = 12. Note that his friend says you get 2 in the end and Eric corrects him saying you get 3 and Joe agrees. Given the level of the question and maybe that he thought is friend just might be off by 1, he decided to play it safe.

That's my guess anyway.

When this question came up, I yelled to my hubby who was in the kitchen, "Hey a bowling question, it's right up your alley!" He groaned! (he was a league bowler for about 10 years), he then said it's 13, I said no it's 12!

I'm with you on your analysis frogman, I believe that this contestant was thinking like my husband that the 3 frames in the 10th must mean the answer would be 13. To me, it seemed way too easy for 25K!
