QOD Saturday 12-08 "DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY"

#1 Post by fantine33 » Sat Dec 08, 2007 7:43 am

12/8 Dude Looks Like a Lady

(I wanted to use today's title for a QOD on female impersonators, but I thought that might be too narrow a category. Ha!)

In the immortal words of Ray Davies, girls will be boys and boys will be girls. The people behind the birth names listed below are better known with names of the opposite gender.

EDIT: I forgot to put that, for today's game, both first and last names are required. I didn't say it specifically, but everybody that has answered thus far got the implication.

1. Amandine Dupin

2. Vincent Furnier

3. Karen Blixen

4. Howard O’Brien

5. Mary Ann Evans

QOD: Emily Bronte wasn’t published under her real name until after her death. What was the masculine pseudonym she used?

5 Point Bonus - What woman was billed with the title “Miss” in her first major role, as the producers didn’t want viewers to think she was a man?

Spoiler
1. Okay, George Sand was the Frenchie, so I guess this is her.

2. Alice Cooper

3. Nope, Cause I"m gonna use George Eliot below

4. Anne Rice

5. George Eliot

QoD: Ellis Bell. Or was it Acton? or Currer? Schistamunder. Can't remember which Bronte sister was which, so no answer.

Bonus: Hum. At the risk of bringing a wrathful ghost down on my head, I'll WAG Tallulah Bankhead.

2. Vincent Furnier = Alice Cooper

3. Karen Blixen = Isaac Dinesen

4. Howard O’Brien = Anne Rice

QOD: Emily Bronte wasn’t published under her real name until after her death. What was the masculine pseudonym she used? The sisters all used Something Bell, the first name being their own initial... Charlotte's would have started with a C... I think it was Currer Bell? I'll go with Currer Bell, Final Answer.

5 Point Bonus - What woman was billed with the title “Miss” in her first major role, as the producers didn’t want viewers to think she was a man?

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Spoiler
1. Amandine Dupin -- Georges Sand, Chopin's hot transvestite squeeze

2. Vincent Furnier -- Alice Cooper, IIRC

3. Karen Blixen -- Isak Dinesen

4. Howard O’Brien -- drawing a blank here; Marilyn Manson?

5. Mary Ann Evans -- George Eliot (not to be confused with Chopin's hot transvestite squeeze)

QOD: Emily Bronte wasn’t published under her real name until after her death. What was the masculine pseudonym she used? -- Dangit, why didn't you pick Charlotte Bronte? I know she published under "Currer Bell," and that her sisters also published under male "Bell" pseudonyms, but I can't recall what Emily's was. "Edwin Bell" comes to mind, but I'm not even remotely sure, so I'll have to pass. Argh.

5 Point Bonus - What woman was billed with the title “Miss” in her first major role, as the producers didn’t want viewers to think she was a man? -- Michael Learned?
