LA Dodgers/Andruw Jones
Have they really offered him 18 million a year for 2 years

They'll likely get more out of him than they did those 2 years of J.D. Drew....macrae1234 wrote:Have they really offered him 18 million a year for 2 years

I think this is a pretty smart move. Of all the free agent CFs who were on the market this winter, Jones is the one who's probably going to be the best over the next 2 years, not Hunter.macrae1234 wrote:Have they really offered him 18 million a year for 2 years
They're paying extra for a short contract, which is also smart. Andruw's what - 32? These next 2 years are likely to be the last couple of years at his prime. More years would have meant less per year, but more money overall.
Really, though, a lot depends on what they do with Pierre. If they admit their mistake from last year, and recognize that a guy who doesn't get on base, doesn't hit for power, and is lousy at defense doesn't belong starting for a contender, it's a great move. If they think all the money they're wasting on him for - what - the next 3 years means they have to start him ahead of either Kemp or Ethier, not so good.

Andruw is currently 30. He will turn 31 on April 23rd....

Based on the Royals paying $12 million/year to Jose Guillen, I think that the Dodgers are getting a steal.macrae1234 wrote:Have they really offered him 18 million a year for 2 years

The Los Angeles Times reported (I can't remember whether it was couched as speculation or sourced) that the Dodgers would use the extra outfielder as a bargaining chip, likely trading either Kemp or Ethier for a pitcher such as Haren. --BobToLiveIsToFly wrote:Really, though, a lot depends on what they do with Pierre. And Guillen will now sit out the first 15 games of the season for receiving HGH....
