top o' the mornin'®
Our church is having a Christmas banquet in two weeks, and I'm part of an ensemble that will be providing the entertainment. We're singing songs that run the gamut of sentiment, from "Somewhere in my Memory" from Home Alone to "Make My Life a Bethlehem". In the middle of the performance our director wanted to add a humorous touch, so he suggested singing "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer". There wasn't much enthusiaism except for me - I think the song is funny and that we should do it. Well, to make a long story short, guess who's going to end singing the song solo. Yep, that would be I. What makes this somewhat more amusing is that rather than having our banquet off-site as we have done in past years, it will be at the church and the entertainment will be in the sanctuary. Imagine an English Gothic church, stone walls, stained glass windows, dark paneling on the ceiling, worked roof beams, etc. - real "high church" stuff. Then imagine me singing "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer." It is to laugh.[/i]
