Vince Offer v. Billy Mays Smackdown!!!

#1 Post by themanintheseersuckersuit » Thu Mar 26, 2009 7:26 am

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I think this is more of a religious question, as in Why if there is a just and omniscient God, does Blueberry Beer exist?

Billy might be able to spell, but apparently he enjoys splitting verb phrases in his free time. As annoying as I find the overly precious and self-aware "pwn", I've been an enemy of the split verb phrase since long before the first geeky little gamer grabbed a joystick.

Cause I'm, you know, older than dirt. Just ask Rexer.....

At the risk of bringing some pedantry to this discussion, I'll say that you're correct. I'm not sure of its exact origin but it seems to be popular in MMORPGs like Runequest and World of Warcraft, and is used when one player dominates another in arena combat or manages to pull off a successful raid. It's a lot like "teh" in that it's passed into "geek speak" and from there into the general discourse.

Don't get me started.
