There are hundreds-- probably thousands, actually-- of examples of this type of thing, the situation in the 'letter' may be a bit exaggerated, but it actually does reflect a lot of typical behavior on the part of people who are involved in this stuff.
So now I'm left wondering which of your posts are things you wrote and which are just things that are circulating around. The long post you made yesterday about "Credit Advice" seemed quite good, but I don't know if it's your own work or just something you came across. The first post in this thread didn't seem up to your usual standards, but I figured everyone is entitled to an off day once in a while. I would always place a higher value on something you wrote than on something that was just circulating around. It would be helpful to know which is which.
The thing that started this thread was someone else's work, as I noted earlier. Most of my 'joke' posts ('two guys walk in a bar...')-- and the thing that started this thread is a 'joke' post, at least, I thought it was obviously a joke-- are borrowed material, although I often revise them for style, spelling, etc. I think the same is true for most of the 'joke' posts that other folks post here-- someone sends you something that amuses you, or you see something online that amuses you, it has some relevance to a topic on the Bored or to another poster, and you forward it the Bored. Mayhap I will start headlining those kinds of posts with 'this was in my e-mail' or something in the future.

To the best of my current recollection, every 'non-joke' post I submit (including yesterdays essay) is, for better or worse, me, unless I specifically attribute it elsewhere.
Thanks for the clarification. And kudos for the post about credit advice, now that I know you wrote it. I've never seen an article on the subject that was as clear, detailed, and useful. I have no idea what my FICO score is and I've never requested a credit report, but maybe I should. Someday. I should also get a colonoscopy and clean my gutters, but I never seem to get around to doing those things, either.

Well, I know he doesn't live in CA, so that was my first clue. My question was more about the provenances of some of his other posts, which are not always clear to me.

I don't recall that he's ever written a single paragraph, either! :)

I just figured that since the C key is next to the V key, we just had another gradiate of ESST.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

I know we're supposed to 'Keep Austin Wierd' but Confessor the person who sold you those gutters was some sick scam artist, because that is not where gutters should be installed.

Thanks! That's my second Groucho. I thought I'd add one when I added my avatar. I've always loved some of the stuff from Mark Twain and Will Rogers, but they are both kind of overused. I saw every single Marx Brothers movie in a small motion picture museum/theatre when I was a kid. I always loved them! When they added Groucho to their "Hall of Fame," I went to the ceremony, so I saw him in person just before he died.

After looking over yesterday's Steven Wright and Emo Phillips thread(s?), I may have to rotate in some of theirs, too, once in a while.

i heard an interview with frank partnoy, author of "Fiasco" which recounted his days as a derivatives trader back in the 90s(the book was published in '97).

He said the foreclosure crisis would not be very harmful to the rest of the economy, but these mortgages(now securitized) had bets placed on whether they would fail or not far exceeding their face value.
And thanks to Phil and Wendy Gramm's 10 year crusade to keep the market unregulated, we have what we have.

He laughed when asked whether he bought derivatives for himself.
He said he only bought treasuries.

Efforts that were signed into law (on two separate occasions) by President William Jefferson Clinton.

A fact that seems to always be conveniently left out by those who try and blame it all on the GOP.
