Re: For the Presidential Pronunciation Police
As I said in my post earlier, for all those who are Obama supporters and claim to be "more rational" and "less emotional" about the politicians you support, this is a piece of evidence that shows you're just like everybody else.
Because history has shown that you'll spend much time and energy rationalizing even the most trivial of foibles that a politician you support displays, but will be quick to jump on similar foibles of those politicians you do not support.
This thread is more revealing about the biases of people than anything it reveals about Obama (because how Obama pronounced the name is really quite a trivial matter, and is not that big a deal).

Alright, let's get serious:
I would like President Obama to remember which article comes before a word that begins with a vowel sound. "A engineer..." is like nails on the whiteboard to me.

Actually it's LOO-uh-vul - three syllables, not just two.SportsFan68 wrote:And a Peer in South Dakota.ne1410s wrote:sprotsIt's VerSales in Illinoy, also. I'll give you that and throw in a San Joes (San Jose) down near Peoria...Where are the Pennsylvanians?

I agree with you, in the exact opposite way.Jeemie wrote:As I said in my post earlier, for all those who are Obama supporters and claim to be "more rational" and "less emotional" about the politicians you support, this is a piece of evidence that shows you're just like everybody else.

Rec!
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
