Rant about graphic novel movies

#1 Post by Spock » Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:25 pm

I really really hate the visual appearance and style of graphic novel movies.

I just watched 300.

There's an easy solution to this, of course. Don't watch them. --Bob (who plans never to see 300)

So what did you expect, Spock? Was it not graphic novelly enough for you? Or were you unaware of the graphic novel style before you saw the movie?

You probably should avoid Watchmen.

I knew it was a graphic novelly movie and that I would not like the style-but I liked the story.

It had a great line that I loved.

Something like-Remember this day because it belongs to you forever.

oTOH-Maybe some of the sci-fi people can help me find a book/big comic/early graphic novel that I really liked.

It was early 1980's (1982 probably) and I remember reading it at the bookstore-It was a really thick, hard-cover comic book thing and it had 5(?) separate-stories in sequence. I think it had a blackish cover.

It had to with another planet and it was like a settlement war cycle between 2 countries. I think they were human.

On the other hand, I have sometimes gone to the movies made from graphic novels mainly because of the visual style. The trailers for Sin City grabbed me because of that black & white with just a few splashes of color look to it. And honestly, I couldn't imagine that movie without those visuals...

My favorite visual from that movie is Carla Gugino. 8) --Bob
