So of course I'm wondering what flavor oatmeal it was, because I'm a detail kind of person. My scrawny daughter vacuums down two packets of apple cinnamon oatmeal in one sitting, so I buy a lot of flavored oatmeal.

I'm a maple brown sugar, myself. Sometimes, I add walnuts.

Hijack!
Low sugar maple and brown sugar. My last packet too, so I was unable to eat breakfast after the incident. I made up for that with a salad at lunch...I was going to go for the soup, but why tempt fate?

Understandable. I am using exactly zero vacation days, but having 3 lovely days on my own and will have some free time on the other 3. I probably wouldn't be going if I had to use vacation days.

Holy crap, Flower - I had the exact same accident a couple years ago! Boiling hot oatmeal from the microwave, bowl slipped out of my hand and hits the counter, and 2 large plops of oatmeal bounced onto the inside of my forearm where it seared into the skin until I could run to the sink. Several minutes of cold running water didn't even touch the pain. 2 large blisters formed almost immediately and I called my G.P. who phoned in a prescription burn cream to the pharmacy (called SSD - 1% Silver Sulfadiazine Cream). I suggest you call your doc and see if he/she can do the same - it'll prevent infection for the first few days, helps decrease scarring, and cools the pain. I do still have remnants of the scars though, which are embarrassing because they look exactly like someone used my arm to snuff out two cigars. I keep the cream in the bathroom; it comes in handy for curling iron burns on the neck. :? Hope it doesn't hurt too much.
OMG! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. It felt like it was going to burn a hole right through my hand!!!!!!

The cold water didn't help much for me either. The cool compresses felt nice and so does the aloe, but I am reapplying it every few minutes!! My doctor is not in today (!!) so I will have to wait until tomorrow for that. It sounds like yours was a little worse if your blisters formed immediately...mine took a while and still don't appear to be fully formed.
I'm no doctor, but I think that since the blister is still growing you might be better off washing the area with an antibacterial soap, applying at least some Neosporin instead of the aloe and E for now, and cover it loosely with a gauze wrapping to keep out any cooties until you can get the SSD cream. Might even be worth a trip to the local Urgent Care just so you don't have to deal with a potential infection during your trip. Have fun! Throw a buck on #22 on the roulette table for me.

Seriously, I tried! I couldn't work it out, though.

Confession--I'm going the next weekend! Free room and $188 round-trip fare using credits. Cheapness rules!

Too bad we won't be there at the same time. Cheapness does rule, although I did splurge on my hotel for the weekend this time. I felt I deserved it, and it was cheap for the Wynn. Everything else is free (and my flight was only like $215 or something like that, I'm just not paying).

You got quite the deal for Wynn. I get offers for Venetian, but when I checked what it would be for the weekend it was something like $850 +, and they were saying "from $109 a night." Yeah, like on a Tuesday night in August....

Mecca doesn't have conferences in Vegas, at least not for us stockers. Actually, they don't have any conferences for us at all. The store managers get to go to Orlando once a year though.....

Every vacation I've taken in teh last decade has revolved around baseball anyway....

I hate when they do that!

These weekends are more expensive due to March Madness. Everything dropped way down on Sunday night for the rest of the week (when I'm not paying, of course) so I bet that was the case for your weekend as well. But if you're getting a free room that is a way better deal than mine!!

I'll leave my American Casino Guide for you somewhere under a bench or something...

I've never seen a AAA ballgame before. Had a chance to see the Memphis Redbirds when I was in Tunica with the folks back in June of 2000..... but didn't do it. The game went 18 innings! I was so teed off that I missed out on it.....

AAA rocks. That's how we met "Cousin" Heath Bell, who was such a nice guy we always root for him no matter who he pitches for.

BTW, we just found out that David Wright's maternal grandfather lives two houses down from my m-i-l! Of course the last name is different and my m-i-l is so vague it took her like 4 years to ask what his baseball-playing grandson's name was. So he's having David autograph some pictures for Mini-me, who worships him....

Backtracking just a bit (pardon me hijackers :) ) but I probably gave you wrong advice about the gauze. You should use something sterile/non-stick instead, if it's going to cover any type of ointment or cream. Something I just read said that with a 2nd degree burn (when it blisters) if the blister is intact, you could just keep it clean and dry, but the aloe will obviously make it feel better. If it's on the hand or face, you should see a doctor right away. Not to ignite any hypochondria or anything...

Butch up!

BITD when I worked at Dunkin Donuts, I constantly had screen burns all over my arms (perhaps I should have worn a blousy overshirt) and I had an actual aloe vera plant and I'd just bust a leaf when I got home in the morning. ......and then I'd take a leaf from the plant and put it on my burns. Ha!

Something about the fresh gel from the plant works so much better than the lotion or gel you buy, even if it is 100%.

There was also a yellow ointment that I used to use that was great. I was called Foille or Faille, or something like that. I don't know if they even make it anymore. Now days I just use hydrocortisone cream. Except when I just butch up and carry on.
Push it real good!

Okay, I have those sterile non-stick pad things (bigger than bandaids) at home.

The blisters are intact...the aloe is awesome for about 20 seconds...I have to keep washing it off when it gets too thick, then continue to reapply.

Why a doctor when it's on the hand? Is that just because you're more likely to pop the blister or something? Great. I have researched walk in clinics, so much for my productive evening...I got here early so I could leave at 4 and now I'll spend it at a walk in clinic. :(
