Hey game show / trivia buddies...
So, prepping for my turn on Catch 21 later this week (i've been pushed back to Thursday or Friday - tba), I've been watching some reruns and realize I'd better bone up on some basic current events. The other night there was a question about the breed of dog that won Best in Show this year (beagle), so I'm thinkin I'd better learn about recent winners in sports and other stuff that I haven't paid as much attention to as I should have.
I'd love some suggestions on what to review this week... Some that come to the top of my head after seeing what kinds of questions they may ask are:
Major sporting event winners (ok, I know about the Stillers... thanks, Bored!)
Major "beauty pageant" winners (I think Miss Indiana won Miss America this year)
Major Entertainment Award winners (Slumdog Millionaire sounds familiar)
The newly appointed government players (umm, Hillary...)
So, if any of you trivia lovers here would like to throw out some ideas off the tops of your heads, I'd be ever so happy and grateful to have them!
I don't need to get too micro-thorough... the questions they ask are fairly simplistic, and I very well could be shut out within 5 minutes and on my way home without getting the chance to answer more than a few.
Thanks - 2C

That Brown visitor guy had his own thread earlier this week.

Re: Hey game show / trivia buddies...
The thread was about gifts exchanged between Obama and a person named Brown who was not further described.
I asked later, and it turned out it was the British P.M.
I normally make a list of major heads of state for such moments, maybe Sarkosy and Brown and a Japanese big name, plus some Cabinet members. But right now some of them are in flux. Secretaries of State and the Treasury would probably do it for now.

The Phillies won the World Series last year. The Celtics won the NBA Championship. I'm pretty sure the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.....
Oh, and if they ask, the Tanstaafl Oenophilic Sorryassbastards won the BBBL championship.....

Time to update!! The Beagle won in 2008. The 2009 winner was a Sussex Spaniel!Second Chance wrote:So, prepping for my turn on Catch 21 later this week (i've been pushed back to Thursday or Friday - tba), I've been watching some reruns and realize I'd better bone up on some basic current events. Of course, in my biased opinion, THIS breed should win EVERY year (unless Annie was entered, of course...)

Who could say no to a face like that?
And yet, this breed has NEVER won Best in Show! The fix must be in every year!

Thank you, Mr. T_Bone. Of course, I cannot win, because I am not a paper dog, except for the paper I made for myself.T_Bone0806 wrote:Of course, in my biased opinion, THIS breed should win EVERY year (unless Annie was entered, of course...)

Mr. Keeshond looks a lot like one of Lizbit's boyfriends. Or maybe it's one of her girlfriends from school. It's kind of hard to tell with all that fur.

Re: Hey game show / trivia buddies...
Crap! I just got a call that I'm back on the schedule for early tomorrow morning. Crap! First, I am so not a morning person and second, I have about 10 million things to do today now that I thought I had 72 more hours to do. Including washing and ironing 3 outfits, grocery shopping for a crockpot dinner, dying my gray roots, and ...taking tall son for his *shudder* drivers license appointment this afternoon!
So, if anyone would like to throw out some more good factoids, now's the time folks (thanks skoop, lb, and t-bone)!
(Hey, I know that Big Brown won the Kentucky Derby thanks to devoted viewing of The Girls Next Door...)

I'm not sure I want to know how the topic of 'Big Brown' came up during an episode of The Girls Next Door.Second Chance wrote: ...SNIP...

...SNIP...
Of course best of luck on Catch 21 - I don't get GSN so any reports on how you did (when you can talk about it) or when it can be seen on any website would be greatly appreciated.

Well - I survived! And it's all a big blur, really. I honestly will need to watch the show to recall all the details. It's an odd phenomenon how really exciting events in your life can turn into dreamlike states sometimes. Or is it just me...?
Obviously I'm not permitted to discuss the outcome, but suffice it to say that while I did have a couple of kick-myself moments, I left smiling. On the whole, it was a really fun yet loooong day, as I was in the last group to tape. A bizarre coincidental string of events happened with every show yesterday, that I'll need to wait to describe.
No airdate was given yet; they'll notify me later.
Oh, and Frogman - Hef took the Girls to watch the race. lol.
