juror report

#1 Post by BigDrawMan » Fri Mar 13, 2009 7:59 am

jury duty #7

all 75ish in the pool were there for one civil trial for the county of allegheny(not sure why it wasnt in federal court, as the Nine defendants were from many states).

it was a wrongful death due to asbestos.tptb said it would take 2 weeks. That sounded optimistic.
fifteen lawyers were present for the voir dire.
I was in the first box to be questioned.
I gave them 9 reasons not to pick me, including an uncle who died of asbestos and had a claim pending, another who is hanging on by a thread(both were on a sick naval ship and worked as grain trimmers for many years),and several asbestos related encounters I have had over the years. And I threw in I was related to Peter Angelos' lawyer fpr good measure.
Most of the lawyers had stopped their scribbling early on.
I was not dismissed immediately, so I went to the jury room to watch basketball for 3 hours.

When I left at 5ish, they still had half the room to question.
ha

I intuit summons #8 from Federal Criminal court is on its way.
i want the record
I dont torture mallards all the time, but when I do, I prefer waterboarding.

You weren't?

Were they interviewing 18 prospective jurors at a time, like at the jury selection I was in last month, or everyone at once?

I sure hope they selected one lawyer from each side to do the actual questioning!

my last trial was medical malpractice. My dad had been a patient of the doc. They sent me home immediately.

This time they had the room divided into 2 boxes and one big melange in the middle. They interviewed the boxes first. No one was dismissed til days end.
We filled out a questionnaire, and a tipstaff had us expound on all of our yes answers No lawyer asked me anything, but they did ask some people questions.

There was a mawg lawyer in my group. He wore jeans.Which is a violation of the dress code. There are judges who will sent you home and come back the next day for looking like bum.

Really? For wearing jeans?

My jury duty summons had a line about dressing to respect the dignity of the court, or something like that, but it didn't go into detail about what that meant.

I wore jeans to my summons back in '03. Lots of others did...

No jeans, no jury service from me (Not that I even made it to selection anyway).....

Hubby and I both received a jury summons last week.

We'll just show up naked and see if we get off.
