Proposed Millionaire Changes...

#1 Post by dodgersteve182 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:17 am

(not that TPTB really care).
Since the "Experts" other than 15QA are unreliable, of course HerMillion too! Let's go back to 3 lifelines, making the 3rd one the Contestants Choice of either asking the Expert or Double Dipping!
Spoiler
I was there for the taping of the first 3 Movie Week Shows and the Ben's (Benz) really suck big time!
.
The bigger and better change to make this dull game show more exciting is to Add another Safe Zone at $100k!!!! Don't all of us plus every viewer out there want to see contestants go for the upper echelon levels? It's like auto pilot for every good contestant to Guess at $50K and fold at $100K! Enough is enough! We live in a world where our once stable stock market can fluctuate 6 - 8% on a daily basis, our homes can be foreclosed on because of aggressive, risky lending practices and our jobs and retirements are in jeopardy (no, not the game show!). So what harm is there to having a smart contestant risk $25K of someone else's money going for a $100K Question? (actually with $100k as a safe zone, they are Risking only $25k to Earn an extra $200K). I wish I could find a "blue chip" stock today with that risk/reward Ratio! :D

It's just like being a contestant...and expert is great...IF they know the answer!

Without the ability to google, it's just another person who may or may not know the necessary information. I am glad I didn't have the lifeline when I played, I don't think I would have trusted it. Then again, I trusted an unknown woman who clapped in the audience when I threw out an option as a guess on one question, so maybe I would have trusted the expert!!

Those changes mentioned in the first post look good. Hopefully they will make those changes if WWTBAM goes back to Primetime. I wouldn't hold my breath for Syndicated Millionaire to make those changes. They will need a bigger budget.

The bean counters are probably content with $250K being the new $1 million. The rest of TPTB probably like the opportunity to add some more talk show segments with hand-picked celebrity "experts" and don't care if they're not as effect a lifeline as any BB PAF would be. They certainly wouldn't risk snubbing their experts by having them sit idle while contestants chose a different lifeline instead of them.

The ATE will either be left in or out, but I can't imagine it becoming optional.

If you could manage to be there for the first three shows, how come the Bens couldn't? One of them (Ben Lyons?) ducked out from today's Expert tandem, leaving only one Ben to chat about the

Okay I know I'm defending ATE yet again but...

Isn't the point supposed to be that it's not a perfect lifeline? I mean it is replacing STQ which wasn't THAT good right? So sometimes there are good experts and sometimes not...there's a bit of luck involved, but there's luck involved in the entire game isn't there? I mean are you going to complain that you got a really hard stack. I think the ATE adds a little fun and I know, I know it's a trivia game there's not supposed to be too much talk showish stuff but if it gets more viewers why not?

In conclusion I like the experts good and bad.

Also I'm a genius.

Maybe if they have a real Expert, they should call it the Ask the Expert LL, if it is a Celebrity like Robin Meade, then they should correctly call it ATC LL. Truth in advertising never hurts!

Where's Michael Davies official explanation for it?*

I don't see the point of it! Except maybe during the special weeks. If you want to bring an expert in during movie week, at least they have a shot at being able to answer any of the questions (now whether they can or not....) but Bill Nye getting stuck with something like pop culture or any other expert getting a question outside of their area of expertise, really negates any benefit of that lifeline.

I'm suprised they didn't get Gene Shalot, Leonard Maltin, or Richard Roper as the experts for "Movie Week". I bet they would've ben a lot better than the two Ben's.

The choice of the two Bens as this week's Experts was based on business more than merit. It gave Disney-ABC TV a chance to cross promote another one of their shows. Disney owns "At The Movies," and the two Bens now co-host this show, which originated with Siskel and Ebert. There's no shortage of opinion on the internet about the new hosts, and it is consistently unfavorable. Here's an assessment of Ben Lyons that ran in the L.A. Times.

Why go from 4 lifelines to 3 no matter what they are? Perhaps a better idea would be to give the contestant the choice of accepting the ATE at 1K or declining, in which case they would pick up one of the currently defunct LLs like 50/50 or STQ at 25K. I'd prefer 50/50 which in conjunction with DD is a free answer!

Safe harbor at 100K is also an excellent idea.

It won't happen. If TPTB have gone to the trouble of having the experts standing by, they're going to want to see them used.

Better to just abandon the ATE lifeline and bring back the one it replaced, the STQ.

I don't really see the difference between an expert appearing during a stack and saying "Sorry no idea" and appearing and being told "Sorry I think I know more than you" by the contestant. Plus TPTB could do fun stuff with a "silenced" ATA, like show his/her response to the TV audience whenever a contestant goes to another lifeline, like they do with the mystery space on Wheel of Fortune.

You seem to think the lifeline's really there to help out a contestant, instead of to provide an opportunity for a little celebrity expert chit-chat and a promotion for whatever book/magazine/sponsor they're associated with.

As for your new suggestion--ugh! I don't want to see WWTBAM turn into Hollywood Squares. Do you?
