I just said goodbye to my father

I'm in Castro Valley where my sister lives. She's taking care of my father (with home hospice care) as of a week ago. The chances he'll make his 92nd birthday on the 31st are not good. I saw him last night and most of today and just said goodbye.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Just be thankful you got to say goodbye. I didn't with either of my parents and I wish I had had that chance. You may not appreciate it for a while but eventually you will.

I was struck to see that our fathers share a birthday. My Dad would have been 78 on the 31st.

Bob, I'm glad you were able to make good use of your employment break. Your dad is a great-great-grandfather, right? Not many people can say that. I hope everything goes as well as possible for him in the time he has left. Best wishes to you and your family.

It is great you got to see him.

I am sure it will help to make those moments that are coming easier to endure.

I treasure the visit I had with my grandmother in hospice.

I miss her very much.

Bob I'm glad you were able to visit him and to say goodbye. I'm sure you will cherish that moment, even as hard and sad as it may have been.

I'm also sorry for your current situation and impending loss.


btw, his birthday is the same as my oldest. She will be 16 on the 31st.

My condolences.

Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary for my father's death. Similar circumstances and I, too, got to say goodbye.

I think they just want to know they did ok raising you and that you'll be ok.

I have no doubt your father was comforted by the positives for both of those concerns.

Thanks to each of you!

I'm glad I got to see him one more time; I had seen him last October. Staying longer wouldn't have changed things. He's lost a lot of his mental facilities. He's just plain wearing out; there's no one thing.

I'm in Winnemucca right now, on my way to Boise. I'm needed there. After that I'll be back in Denver. I'm needed there too.
