littlebeast13 wrote:Well, after two straight low scoring games in a row, maybe today will be more of a point bonanza, as there are lots of points to be had in this game. it is not only Theme Thursday, but it is a matching game as well! You will get the usual bonus points for indentifying the theme, but also will get bonus points if you can successfully match up the following 15 songs into 5 triplets based on the theme of today's puzzle.... which I promise you is not music heard on Mecca Radio. As usual, you are allowed to guess at the triplets even for those songs you can't get correct....

One other note just to be clear: the theme I am looking for in today's game relates to how the songs all match up into their triplets, and does not specifically refer to the individual songs themselves.... just in case anyone were to be confused on that point....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme, and 3 points for each correct triplet you match up....

Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds (This was one of those songs (like Los Lobos and "La Bamba") that was written by someone else, recorded for a movie, and then the song got more airplay than anything else the band had ever done. They were simultaneously indebted to it and resented it.)

Theme?

American (10) + Gigolo (12) = Call Me (2)
Top (4) + Gun (9) = Take My Breath Away (11)
Pretty (13) + Woman (8) = It Must Have Been Love (6)
Breakfast (3) + Club (14) = Don't You (Forget About Me) (15)
Rain (1) + Man (7) = Iko, Iko (5)

Until I found the way to love, it's harder said than done
Let It Rain - Eric Clapton

2. Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough
Call Me - Blondie (Contrary to popular belief, this is only the secon time this song has appeared this year, and the first instance was in a Retro Monday game so I'm still good. If you all think you had deja vu here, just wait until next Thursday....)

3. I´m a winner, I´m a sinner
Do you want my autograph
I´m a loser what a joker
I´m playing my jokes upon you
While there´s nothing better to do
Breakfast in America - Supertramp

But I know that you're sad

Ah she's got a way to make a man feel shiny and new
And she sings in the evenin', oh familiar tunes
And she feeds me love and tenderness and macaroons
Sweet City Woman - The Stampeders (I didn't realize the lyric after the first chorus is "neighbors and friends", I always thought it was "needles and pins"...)

9. Maybe you want to end it, you've had your fill of my kind of fun
but you don't know how to tell me and you know that I'm not that dumb
I put 2 and 1 together and you know that's not an easy sum
Smoking Gun - Robert Cray (Yes, it's even sum not easy sum. I just cut and paste the lyrics and I don't catch everything, especially in songs I don't get to hear enough to know the lyrics by heart like this one.... which is a shame since I like the song)

10. Four young chiquitas in Omaha
Waitin' for the band to return from the show
A feelin' good, feelin' right and it's Saturday night
The hotel detective, he was outta sight
We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad

2-10-12 - Call Me was in American Gigolo
3-14-15 - Don't You Forget About Me was in (The) Breakfast Club

JJC Points:

SC gets 2 JJC points for being confused...

mini gets 2 JJC points for overcoming her vagueness and for NOT singing the %@&^# Carpenters....

ghost gets a JJC point for failing to keep accurate track of how many times I've used Call Me (I think next year, ala Starplane last year, I'm gonna pick a certain song and use it about every other game.... just to get on people's nerves.... :P )

Kroxquo gets a JJC point for "I Go I Go"...

Saucy gets 2 JJC points for a good ES title...

TBone gets 3 JJC points, most of it for the Amish in Da Club....

Fanny gets 2 JJC points, at least one of them for the fact that I knew she'd complain about the fact that I didn't use Janie's Got A Gun in this one. She can blame Kroxquo for coming up with Smoking Gun during the ES game, because I just had to try to work it into a game after he reminded me of it....)

Estonut gets a JJC point for Club Me....

Quelle coincidence! They were just in the news this week:

http://www.chartattack.com/news/66739/i ... jd-fortune

In reading this and searching for additional information, it appears that the reality show winner, J.D. Fortune, is back to homelessness after touring with the band for 23 months. I couldn't quickly find a cite, but I know I read (or heard) that one of the runners-up from the show is being considered as a replacement. Now that I think of it, it must have been on an ET/Insider-type show, because I remember a snippet of an interview with the guy, and I recall he had an Australian accent. I think one of the finalists was an Aussie named Mig, or something like that.
