I'm calm and collected

#1 Post by kayrharris » Thu Mar 05, 2009 10:07 am

and organized, I hope. I have a list I hope I don't lose.

Feeding 25 tonight, but that's all handled. The lasagna is assembled and ready to bake. Bread is no
problem, salad is being provided by sister in law, tiramisu is being made by a fine restaurant that does
a wonderful work of art. I've hired a nice young lady to help with serving and clean up.

Today I'm heading out to finish grocery shopping, get a manicure and pedicure, finish up the programs
we made up for the wedding party so they know when and where to be, and go by the dry cleaners.

Yesterday it occurred to me maybe I should get out the dress I purchased six months ago and make sure it still fits
and the shoes I bought were good for the length. Thank goodness it's perfect. It's been steamed and is hanging
in the back closet so it won't get wrinkled.

Weather report is now saying sunny and maybe even low 80's for the weekend. The weather gods are
smiling on us for now. Wish us luck!

Most excellent up-date Kay!

Yes, everything will be great. I have no doubt!

But are you cool? You need the full set.

It'll all be wonderful. No one else will notice any small problems. Good luck, and enjoy the day!
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I don't think my invite has arrived yet. If you have everything else done you might want to get right on that!

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

[HYSTERIUM]
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I'm perfectly calm,
I'm utterly under control.
I haven't a worry:
Where others would hurry I stroll.
I'm calm,
I'm cool,
A gibbering fool
Is something I never become.
When thunder is rumbling
And others are crumbling,
I hum.
Hm--hmmm--hmmmmm!!!!!
HMMMMM!!!!
H-M-M-M!!!!

I must think calm comforting things,
Butterfly wings,
Emerald rings,
Or a murmuring brook,
Murmuring, murmuring, murmuring...look,
I'm calm,
I'm calm,
I haven't a qualm,
I'm utterly under control.
Let nothing confuse me
Or faze me-- [yawn] --
Excuse me.
I'm calm.
Oh so calm.
Oh so--

Hysterium!
