Dallas Cowboys release T.O.

#1 Post by tubadave » Wed Mar 04, 2009 11:40 pm

Terrell Owens' stay in Dallas is over.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3953647

The Cowboys, in my opinion, are taking a bit of a hit, talent-wise, as they don't really have another viable #1 receiver. But they just might more than make up for it with the likely improvement in their locker room chemistry.

They still have Witten, and they signed Roy Williams (the other one) from Detroit - if he delivers as expected, the 'boys won't miss TO at all.

Now if the Cowboys could just release Jerry Jones, they might win another Super Bowl...

How many Super Bowls did the Cowboys win with T.O.?

How many NFC championships did the Cowboys win with T.O.?

These are kind of unfair questions, since they haven't won a playoff game since the 1996 season.

I think the Cowboys can thank Romo more than TO for their recent problems.

Some of the game issues, yes. The off-field crap, definitely not.

Off-field distractions can kill a season and Owens is a 24/7 distraction wherever he goes (the Cowboys and the Raiders seem to love picking up such distractions; Jerry Jones apparently feels that the resulting publicity is worth the downside).

The Giants were never the same team after the Plaxico Burress incident. It hit on a Friday night and the Giants had already traveled to Washington to prepare for the Sunday game so they were somewhat shielded from the media sensation and they played one of their best games of the season whipping the Redskins.

After that, however, the roof fell in. Three losses in their last four games and a lackluster performance against the Eagles in the playoffs. There were a lot of reasons, but I think the psychological impact of the Burress incident was the main one. This was a team that had overachieved by getting themselves mentally ready week in and week out. Create a big enough distraction and bad things happened. If Burress had suffered a season ending on-field injury instead of what actually happened, the Giants do far better the rest of the year.

It has been rumored that the Cowboys might be interested in Plaxico.

They can be interested all they want. There's no way in hell that the Giants would trade Plaxico to them.

A trouble-maker who they could definitely get a draft pick for from multiple teams.

He's not T.O.

There was widespread wondering about whether the Giants would release Plaxico right after the shooting incident because he woudl be a distraction.

My guess is that if they were going to release him, they would have done it then.

Um....yes...

Which is why there is no way in hell the Cowboys will get him.

They got two draft picks for Jeremy Shockey. Burress still has value.

But they wouldn't trade him to another NFC East team that they have to face twice a year.

I'm alive but this may kill me.

It probably means that I'll see my Bills in primetime a couple more times than I would've without TO on the team, but it also fills me with dread. How much patience is a loose cannon like him going to have with a young QB like Trent Edwards who is still learning his craft? If the Bills can stay relatively healthy (which they have NOT done in either of the last 2 seasons), there is a good team waiting to break out, but it is not going to the Super Bowl anytime soon. This will not sit well with TO.

Perhaps the fact that he is only on a 1-year deal will keep him acting as a good soldier.

And perhaps I will be the starting Center Fielder for the Yanks this season.
