have you noticed how many contestants on BAM

answering only with the letter? We were coached never to do that because you might name the wrong letter. A few llamas with me made that mistake. I'm really surprised. Especially when they say just the letter and "final answer" right away.

I thought they were banking time that could be used later, if they reach the $1M question.

Also on that first tier, there isn't much time left with the host reading the answers counting toward your 15 seconds.

I'd do it also.

I think the 15 second clock ticking away has unnerved many contestants causing them to do this.
I also remember one contestant (from last season?) who Meredith had to keep asking to enunciate the full answer because TPTB couldn't distinguish between his Bs and Ds.

Here's what I've wondered about: I've seen several questions where the answers themselves are one of the letters a-d (for example, What was Lyndon Johnson's middle initial? a: B b: D c: K d: M. It's almost like having a free 50/50 if you just say "b, final answer". It seems like they never do the logical thing and make answer b be B, etc. in those cases.

Jeff Gross had that happen to him when he was on in 2004. Here's his question

I don't think I answered with a letter - I really took lily's advice to heart. I answered the word - how much longer can that take?

Long enough, when TDC only leaves you a few seconds after Meredith is done reading the choices.

(I agree that it's better to read the whole answer. It's also better without TDC.)
