My NEW "Fancy House"

#1 Post by dimmzy » Wed Mar 04, 2009 10:10 am

This week, I am pet-sitting in a beautiful circa-1840 farmhouse in the country with wide plank floors and a pot-belly stove. I am watching an adorable springer spaniel named Olive and a black-and-white cat named Orbit.

No fancy movie theater or jacuzzi here -- they don't even have CABLE -- but now I can think Deep Thoughts. And this afternoon, Olive and I will take a long walk through the woods out back along the path that leads to the Christmas tree farm next door.

Ah, the good life.

Take Orbit too!

(Kidding.)

We used to let Clayton come along, if he wanted to, until the property owners closed the trail through the woods. :(

Now we're stuck with the streets, and Casey has to be on a leash.

You two have fun!

Take Orbit too!
A lot of people would say that Orbit should be an outdoor cat. He sat on the windowsills today looking very longingly at the beautiful outdoors ... and at all the birds at the bird feeder.

I'm actually amazed at the different varieties of birds who visit the feeders here -- including one I haven't seen before: it's got thick black-and-white stripes with horizontal black-and-white stripes along the edge of its feather and a red beak (or else a red spot above its beak.) It's smaller than a cardinal.

When Clayton and Yeti pass on, probably another five or six years, we'll start feeding birds too. Until then, it would be Yeti Smorgasbord Heaven.

A red beak? Not a red spot on top of its head? If the latter, it might be a Downy Woodpecker.

Sounds like my kind of place - except for the no cable part.
