Rules clarification: I shouldn't have said that one film on List B "stands alone" - it may also be used just like the other List B films, but it has a special significance to the Tangredi which will be obvious when the Tangredi is found.

Well, we have What's Up Doc in list A, starring Ryan O'Neal and Madelein Kahn, and in list B we have Paper Moon starring Ryan O'Neal and Madelein Kahn
List A 'Sup Doc w/ Mad Kahn & Ken Mars - List B Young Frankenstein w/ Mad Kahn & Ken Mars.

Hmm. Balaban is in at least two other films - pretty sure he is in Midnight Cowboy with Voight - who is also in Catch 22 with Balaban. And Balaban is also in Best in Show as the show bigwig.

The Tangredi is actors with weird names.

One of the wrong answers in the consolidation is SWEET SWEETBACK'S BADASS SONG. Everyone seems to have acknowledged that SSS's authoritative answer of CARNAL KNOWLEDGE is correct for A37.
Edited to add: never mind, now I see the correction. Just wanted to revive the thread.

It's really not that hard! Especially with all the movie expertise around here. There are at least 8-10 pairs of the list A films where I guarantee if I told you the two films you would immediately, almost without thinking, be able to tell me why they are a pair. I also embedded a couple of hints within the clues.

I have been mulling a TV angle to no avail. For example, in List A we have Galaxy Quest (Tim Allen) and Tom and Huck (JT Thomas). We have English Patient (Naveen Andrews) and LOTR (D Monaghan). We have Lebowski (J Goodman) and Desperately Seeking Susan or Jfk (Laurie Metcalf). The Birds (Suzanne Pleshette) and Catch 22 (some dude from Newhart).

Re: New GroganGame: Films Not Starring Jerzy Trela
Others would include Diner (Paul Reiser) and As Good As It Gets (Helen Hunt) = Mad About You
James and the Giant Peach (Jane Leeves) and David Hyde Pierce (Nixon) = Frasier
People vs. Larry Flynt (Woody) and Brady Movie (Shelly Long) = Cheers
Mad Mad World (Don Knotts) and Sling Blade (John Ritter) = Three's Company
Ice Age (Gorn Visnic) and Revenge of the Nerds (Anthony Edwards) = ER
Unstrung Heroes (Kramer) and Shallow Hal (Jason Alexander) = Seinfeld
Tomorrow Never Dies (Teri Hatcher) and Kyle McLachlan (Blue Velvet) = Desperate Housewives.
Ordinary People (Judd Hirsch) and Ruthless People (DeVito) = Taxi
Megan Mullaly (Stealing Harvard) and Wedding Date (Messing) = Will and Grace.
Scream has Courtney Cox, Goodfellas Lorraine Bracco (Sopranos), Finding Nemo has Alison Janney and Brad Garrett. My Dog Skip has Frankie Muniz.
So I think it is something like that. Brad Garrett was on the same show as Peter Doyle from Young Frankenstein. I think that's how we connect the two lists. But this could be just a theory, since, for example, I don't know a regular TV actor in Broadcast News, to just take the first one off List B.

I wish I'd had the time to spend on this, but I can at least answer Weyoun's worrisome one:
BROADCAST NEWS costarred Robert Prosky from "Hill Street Blues" and "Veronica's Closet".

Some other quick ones
Man Who Wasn't There has Gandofilini, so he plus Bracco (Goodfellas) = Sopranos
Dick York is in Inherit the Wind. Elizabeth Montgomery in The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell = Bewitched. Agnes Moorehead has to be in something, right?
Ray Romano (Ice Age) + Brad Garrett (Finding Nemo) = Everybody Loves Raymond
I seem to recall David Schwimmer in Six Days Seven Nights, so + Courtney Cox Arquette = Friends
I havent been keep track, but Carnal Knowledge with Bergen points to Murphy Brown or Boston Legal. What's Up Doc, never seen. The Happening is perplexing, who is in that except Wahlberg and Leguizamo? Nashville has like a billion people in it. Still don't know how to work Frankie Muniz in there, assuming Malcolm in the Middle is the show.

Yep, Agnes Moorehead was in JOHNNY BELINDA.
MURDER BY DEATH has to be there for Nancy Walker or Peter Falk. I'd lean towards Walker, mainly because Falk was pretty much the only recurring character in "Columbo".
And as for THE HAPPENING, besides Melly, it had Betty Buckley, from "Eight is Enough".

Re: New GroganGame: Films Not Starring Jerzy Trela
New compilation, now with pairings!
First, pair up the films in List A to make 20 pairs (one answer will be used twice). Then, match each pair to at least two films from List B, according to the Tangredi. One film from List B will stand alone, for reasons that will be obvious once the Tangredi is determined. Some films on List B will be used more than once - the exact number isn't important. Consider the puzzle finished if you have used each film from List B and have matched each pair of List A films with a minimum of two from List B.
COMPLETE A/B PAIRINGS
"ER" starred Anthony Edwards (A26. REVENGE OF THE NERDS), Goran Visnjic (A24. ICE AGE), George Clooney (B16. MICHAEL CLAYTON), William Daniels (B38. 1776), and CCH Pounder (B7. PRIZZI'S HONOR)

Re: New GroganGame: Films Not Starring Jerzy Trela
I'm glad to see some kind of progress on this, but you need to refine the Tangredi a bit with regard to the A/B matches. There is a definite distinction between the usage of B list and A list films in the matches.

Re: New GroganGame: Films Not Starring Jerzy Trela
I have held off lately since I have an exam to prepare for - but my thought is that the logic behind List A is right, but List B needs something more. For example, List B has Brazil, which has the lady from Who's the Boss who got the plastic surgery in Brazil. If there is a way to find Tony Danza, we could link Taxi to Ms. Helmond to Brazil. Just a thought.

I'm going through Tony Danza's filmography. None of his films are in this game.Weyoun wrote:I have held off lately since I have an exam to prepare for - but my thought is that the logic behind List A is right, but List B needs something more. By the way, WHAT'S UP, DOC? starred Ryan O'Neal, who was one of the dozens of stars of TV's "Peyton Place". It may be a real pain to make a match there.

I just wanted to point out that William Daniels was on St. Elsewhere, not ER. That's all I've got for now.

Here's the refinement: the actors from the B list play the parents of one or more of the characters played by the actors on the A list.
Oh, and I can't believe there's still a question mark for TREMORS. That's obviously the right answer.

In that case: Maurice Evans from Planet of the Apes played Samantha's father in Bewitched.plasticene wrote:Here's the refinement: the actors from the B list play the parents of one or more of the characters played by the actors on the A list.

And Mary's mother on The Mary Tyler Moore Show was played by Nanette Fabray of The Band Wagon.
