Speaking of Damn Yankees
Our production was nominated as Best Musical - Equity for this year's Column Awards. The Column Awards are for local theatre, both Equity and non-Equity in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. Voted on by the subscribers to The Column, an e-mail theatre-related newsletter based in Dallas.
I will be performing "Heart" (along with 4 other guys) at the awards show.

Congratulations! I didn't know you were a union guy. That seems unusual for community theater in Texas. Are you being paid Equity rates?

That's great! Congrats.

I'm not a member of Actor's Equity. None of the theatres in Dallas are exclusively union. Most of them have between 1-5 Equity contracts in a show. The theatre where I have done most of my shows is a community theatre. We are not an Equity house.TheConfessor wrote:Congratulations! I didn't know you were a union guy. Our production of Damn Yankees had 2 Equity members in the cast.

Tonight's the night.
We perform "Heart" in front of most of the Dallas area theatre community. For most of them, this will be the first time they have seen me on stage.
I have this fantasy of some Director seeing me up there and thinking, "Gee, that overweight dude sings pretty well, and he would be perfect for the part of X in my next show. I'll have to talk to him later and find out how to get in touch with him."

Nonononono, Cal, you must be SPECIFIC in your dreams. The director isn't saying "he'd be great as 'X' in 'my new show'," he'd be saying, "That Cal guy would be amazing as Prof. Henry Higgins in my upcoming Broadway revival of 'My Fair Lady'!"
THEN it will come true. You may, of course, substitute your own personal favorite role/show; Higgins and MFL are only for illustrative purposes only. Just don't go overboard. I don't think you can handle Cassie in "Chorus Line," for instance, but be brave and bold (like maybe Sheila; I think your version of "At the Ballet" would kick ass!).

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

No, we didn't win. The Who's Tommy by Dallas Theatre Center won. It was a strong group of shows in our category.silvercamaro wrote:Did Damn Yankees win Best Musical?
