QUESTIONS

1. How do I love thee?

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

2. Do you know the way to San Jose?

Hal David or Dionne Warwick

I hadn't planned this to be tricky, I figured anybody who wasn't familiar enough to know that Hal David wrote the lyrics would just say Dionne Warwick. So, as long as you put David or Warwick in your answer with Bacharach, you're okay. Just Bacharach or anybody else in your answer is a miss. (Caro, I don't think the Carpenters ever did this, maybe you're thinking of Close to You? But, YAY! for bringing you out of the woodwork and posting!)

3. Can we all get along?

Rodney King

This one is why I gave the caveat about maybe not being exact quotes. Like many of you I thought it was "Can't we all just get along" and was checking to see if "just" was in there. There are like 104850383 different versions of this, but I took the one that was in a King interview.

4. If winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

Percy Bysshe Shelley

My second favourite poet of all time (behind Robert Herrick).

5. Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that?

Benjamin Franklin

QOD: If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?

Vince Lombardi

5 Point Bonus: What is the answer to the second question posed in #5?[/quote]

Nobody or No one.

I've seen it both ways and both of those answers are acceptable.

+10 for Pacman
-10 for Cameron (who has never shown that winning is anything)
+10 for Fantasy Football

Not really relevant but Billy Beane does now have a connection to San Jose. The owner of the new San Jose Earthquakes soccer team is Lewis Wolff who also owns the A's. Billy Beane is now acting as the general manager of the San Jose Earthquakes.

They did cover the song on one of their albums, but it was never released as a single AFAIK.

He'll be singing about the way to San Jose when the A's make their fourth move in franchise history any year now.

Which one? I didn't go through the track listing of every one of their albums, but I checked the song listing of all who had recorded it and the Carpenters weren't on there.

If there is a sport I know less about than baseball in the last 21 years, it would be soccer. I didn't even know that Charlie Finley wasn't still the A's owner. Ha!

It was part of a medley of Bacharach/David songs that they recorded on one of their early albums. The medley included "Always Something There to Remind Me", "Walk On By", "Make it Easy on Yourself" and a couple of others. Come to think of it I'm not sure it was the whole song that was recorded - it may only have been one verse or perhaps only a phrase or two.

Thanks, the site I use has only the first two songs in the medley as the title, which is why it didn't come up on the song title. Amazon shows every song in the medley, of which "San Jose" is the last. I'm going to assume that they sing the title sentence and give Caro a 20 point adjustment in the standings. He can thank you later. Ha!

I think the A's are building their new stadium in Fremont,CA but I don't know if that will really count as a franchise move.

Is is a franchise move when the Dallas Cowboys move from Irving to Arlington?

Glad to help - I owned that album (and several others), and my first "official" date with elwing was to a Carpenters concert. So they're near and dear to my heart.
