I will laugh at somma you after

#1 Post by ghostjmf » Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:04 am

my office wins its (probably illegal to do from a workplace) MegaWhosits Lottery Pool.

The few others of you I am buds with, best or otherwise, I will buy a nice dinner with a nice-dinner-sized fraction of my 15th (unless someone dropped a dollar in after me) of the gillion dollars in the MegaWhosits this week.

Why would it be illegal?

See- this is what I don't get about you. Even when you're fantasizing about something that would be REALLY REALLY GOOD for you, you bring something negative into it.

It's almost as if you can't post about a single thing without something negative in the post.

Why would you do that?

Will you invite me to a nice dinner when you win?

I am sure about the lack of the other invite.

I'll laugh all the way to the bank.

SteelersFan is in a PowerBall pool with about 10 other people, including the owner of his company. The "Closed" sign goes up Sunday morning if they win.

I'm in my own pool. If I win, I'm calling in rich on Monday.

I'll invite all y'all to dinner when I win -- someplace near the Millionaire studio in NY. You can pick the place, Pea.

In point of fact, there have been people who were sternly warned by their workplace that betting pools are not allowed. In fact, I've read "March Madness" articles giving examples of how, technically, whoever is running the pool could get prosecuted for running an illegal gambling operation, but that, of course, is because the person running the pool accumulates the money, & disburses the winnings.

In the lottery-pool case, the money is being collected by the nice MegaWhosits lottery agent. And the person buying the tickets will of course escort us all to the state to collect our winnings, if, that is, we ever hear from them again.....

I'll be buying 2 or 3 MegaMillions tix on the way home tonight.

I'd love to call in well on Monday.

it is legal to play the lottery
it may be against compnay policy to collect the money to play said pool on company time(like posting on this board)
but Rich U cant make it "illegal"

When I do, I'll be sure to leave a running commentary on a message board as to all the troubles I had putting out a successful program.

Nope, gonna be us. Either individually (I buy in multi-drawing fashion, and so have some tickets despite not getting out much lately), or as part of GW's workgroup (If my calculations are correct, we'll each get about $5MM cash before taxes).

That's not including our Powerball winnings from tomorrow. (If you're gonna wish, wish BIG!)
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Okay, but you guys are up against Fate. I was talking about running off to Vegas as my reward for wrangling sick kids all month and unwrapping a fortune cookie at the same time. The fortune read, "Soon, you will be on top of the world." So either I will get to go visit Santa "soon" or it related to the conversation I was having.

I bought a ticket using the numbers on the fortune. It will win. We will party.

Or I'm supposed to book a flight to the Arctic Circle....
