Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 2/23/09

#1 Post by Ofer37 » Mon Feb 23, 2009 7:21 am

Hi, it's me, that reminder of all that was once good about WWTBAM. I know how happy all of you, except SSS, are to see me. Maybe now that Douchebag Millionaire took the Best Picture at the Oscars, you will soon be seeing a lot more of me. We can only hope....

Back in the all Merry Man March 2003 LS, LB called upon me to submit this game, songs that bring back memories of that ideal of game show perfection, The Old Phone Game®. I know you're just itching to play this one again, even those of you who only think you played it the first time. But before you begin, please enter your six digit birthdate and the last four digits of your social security number....

Today's Retro Monday game was originally posted on Monday March 17, 2003....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and Sad Fred if you miss any of these.....

1. I tried to call you before
But I lost my nerve
I tried my imagination
But I was disturbed

2. There's something in my eye's
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me

3. Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough

4. no first of spring
no song to sing
in fact here's just another ordinary day

5. Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party

6. I’m a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah

7. You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach
You'll never drill for oil on a city street
I know you're looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there ain't no Coup de Ville hiding at the bottom
of a Cracker Jack box

8. The scar's a souvenir she'd never lose
The past is never far
And did you lose yourself somewhere out there
Did you get to be a star

9. Hello, how are you
Have you been alright
Thru all those lonely, lonely, lonely,
Lonely, lonely nights

10. Come out of your shell, boy
You know we go like hand in glove
You're afraid of giving in
But I am never giving up on your love

And did you lose yourself somewhere out there

Have you been alright
Thru all those lonely, lonely, lonely,

1. I tried to call you before
But I lost my nerve
I tried my imagination
But I was disturbed
867-5309 (Jenny) - Tommy Tutone (Estonut may live in an overlay area where all calls have to be 10 digits, but I don't, so I can still dial 867-5309 and get somebody on the line, but probably not Jenny....)

2. There's something in my eye's
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me
Operator - Jim Croce (Sorry Clem, but I found an even better reason not to count Jesse Malin than we were giving you in chat last night. According to the same Wiki article you linked on him, he recorded "Operator" on the album "On Your Sleeve", which was released on April 7, 2008.... or 5 whole years AFTER this game was written and originally posted. Sorry, dude, but you seriously need to check out Jim Croce if you don't know who he is... which you will probably do just as soon as I listen to Captain Jack....)

3. Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough
Call Me - Blondie

4. no first of spring
no song to sing
in fact here's just another ordinary day
I Just Called To Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder

5. Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Birthday - Beatles (6-digit birthdate anyone? This song fits the theme perfectly...)

6. I’m a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred

7. You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad - Meatloaf

8. The scar's a souvenir she'd never lose
The past is never far
And did you lose yourself somewhere out there
Did you get to be a star
Name - Goo Goo Dolls (If you had to give your name, then you made it to Happy Fred!)

9. Hello, how are you

Thru all those lonely, lonely, lonely,
Lonely, lonely nights
Telephone Line - ELO

10. Come out of your shell, boy
You know we go like hand in glove

1-2-3-4 - Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine (Though it was widely believed that 1-2-3-4 was never a valid choice on TOPG....

JJC Points:

mntetn seemed particularly frisky yesterday and got 3 JJC points, much of it for being the first one to crack me up by remembering I Just Called To Say I Love You's past relevance to this contest...

HSoB got a JJC point for 7 out of 10 ain't bad...

Fanny got a JJC point for conjuring up Lily Tomlin...

TBone gets a JJc point and lovely parting gifts...

Clem got too many of the songs right to get many JJC points, but I gave him 2, and he should be thankful for that after trying to force me to accept Jesse Malin....

Panic got 2 JJC points, mostly for Captain Cracker Jack....

Estonut gets a JJC point for also associating August with Stevie Wonder... too bad he didn't call that album "Hotter Than August"....

Who needs to cheat when you keep recycling the same damn songs repeatedly! :P

Smash me over the head often enough, and after a while I get the picture....
