Top 10 funniest books, to the Brits

Interesting group. Since I like British humor in general, I'll have to look these up.
Any thoughts here with more U.S.-based authors?

I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Gee Thanks-Now I have to buy the Spike Milligan book-I did not know about it.
As GMF said about Spike-for 3 Musketeers-Wags said he even got Spike Milligan into bed with Raquel Welch-Miligan's response about it-

I certainly can't argue with most of the list.
Wodehouse at the top works for me (as well as a second appearance) - the Jeeves books and short stories can't be beat IMO.
Another comment, I stumbled across Tom Sharpe by picking up a cheap used copy of his book 'Blott on the Landscape' - not sure way and was somewhat skeptical - but when I read it fell in love with it - extremely black comedy and satire. I've subsequently read nearly everything else by Sharpe - no author like him in my opinion. Very funny and very outrageous. His first two books 'Riotous Assembly' and 'Indecent Exposure' I believe helped him get kicked out of South Africa -amazing books IMO. If you have not heard of him, then check him out - I'm glad to see him on the list as well.

Funniest British book I ever read was:
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾
One year while on staff at summer camp a friend and I read it out loud to each other. We could only do a few pages at a time because we would be laughing so hard we couldn't breath.

No matter where you go, there you are.

The Mackerel Plaza by Peter DeVries. Too bad it's out of print, but find it in your local library.
I am about 25% sure of this.

For someone recent, Mil Millington is hilarious. Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About, A Certain Chemistry, and Love and Other Near-Death Experiences

Another one by DeVries that I found funny was the Vale of Laughter.nitrah55 wrote:The Mackerel Plaza by Peter DeVries. Too bad it's out of print, but find it in your local library.

Any list such as this that does not contain Good Omens is an imcomplete list. I came for the Gaiman and stayed for the Pratchett.gsabc wrote:http://www.abebooks.com/books/funniest- ... te=feature

Good Omens is among the books lower down on the page. It just didn't make their top ten.Sisyphean Fan wrote:Any list such as this that does not contain Good Omens is an imcomplete list. Okay, I'll rephrase. A Top 10 list such as this that does not contain Good Omens is not a Top 10 list.gsabc wrote:Good Omens is among the books lower down on the page. I've read that book 5860433 times and every time I love it more. Which reminds me, it's probably time to read it again. It's one of those that stays in the bedside bookcase so I never have to go hunting for it when I'm in the mood.

I'll place my votes for The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse by Robert Rankin and Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore.
Those three books have made me laugh more than any others.

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.
