Catch 21 Finally Called
So I was supposed to be on last season's Catch 21 on GSN. I showed up on tape day and all was hunky dory... until I got light-headed and queasy right before it was my group's turn to tape, and couldn't go on. CRAP. I hadn't slept a wink the night before - nervous, I guess - so hubby made me a cup of his industrial strength french-pressed coffee... (I'm not a coffee drinker), and well - I guess the combination caused my downfall - which happened to be the last day of taping for the season. The casting coordinator was understanding enough about it, although I'm sure it pissed her off a bit, and said she'd put me on again if the show was picked up for a second season. I wan't holding my breath. Well, maybe a little. So... season 2 auditions were announced in early January; an ad went up on Craigslist. I even sent her a little "hey! remember me? humorous email... but nuthin.
Until last night! I finally got the call asking me to come in today to audition again, and taping will be starting this Sunday. Nothing like a little short notice to put one on the tip of one's toes... So I went in today, killed during the audition - not a difficult feat being among a bunch of mostly youngsters who'd never even seen the show before - and here I've been watching all season prepping for my second chance opportunity to pounce on it. So, I think it went well and if she's really still not too aggravated from before and just going thru the motions, hopefully I'll be getting "the" call. Taping will be from Feb. 21st thru Mid March. It's a dippy show, but it's trivia & blackjack, two of my favorite guilty pleasures, so it would be fun to go on and possibly win $25,000. Or leave with nothing within 10 minutes. ha.
Now, an unusual thing was going on there today. A new reality show for the new Fox Reality Channel called "Househusbands" was there taping. They were following the exploits of one of their subjects, Househusband Danny, while he went to try out for a gameshow! Nice enough guy, this Danny. So he and I ended up being seated next to each other while we were waiting for our turn "up at bat," and of course while we chatted, this was all being taped, and then when they called up groups of 3 to "play the game," I was in his group - again, all being taped. He actually was in 2 different groups so that they'd get plenty of footage, but if they use any of the footage of our group, I guess my mug might end up on that show when it starts airing in August. Me. On a reality show. Snort.
Anyway, we'll see what happens. Hope I get the call for the gameshow - and not create my own downfall again if I do! I think I'm good this time... fingers crossed.

There's stuff on Buzzerblog indicating that there are new rules for this season, but no details. Anything you can share?
Good luck on appearing on both shows!

Exciting that you might get your chance on Catch 21 and that you might have footage on this other show!Second Chance wrote: Now, an unusual thing was going on there today. Also, no mention about an appearance fee. Just had to sign a release.
And thanks for all the good wishes. Again, fingers crossed. Toes too.

Good luck! If you get to go on, with the wonky end game, don't walk in expecting to make a mint. Just look for a good time!

Well, $26,000 total isn't too bad if you win the end game. The prizes for each 21 ($1,000 extra, $5,000 extra, $25,000 extra) are pretty much there to encourage risk taking.christie1111 wrote:the cheap prize money.

I've been lurking on here for ages, I may as well participate until it becomes a liability for you all!
The only changes (beyond a new logo, set/look, and bigger audience) is an additional Power Chip going into the end game if you win, so you can get four instead of three. It's the literal absolute least they could do. The absolute least.
Glad to finally be part of the community here.

Hi, Alex! Shouldn't you also include Morgantown as your location, or would that be too uncool?thealexdavis wrote:I've been lurking on here for ages, I may as well participate until it becomes a liability for you all!

For those who don't know, Alex runs the excellent game show news site called Buzzer Blog, which can be found here:
http://buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com/
I've been meaning to post there, or to e-mail some comments about recent articles and thank you for several of the videos you've posted. I thought the UK game show about making connections was fascinating. I'd certainly watch that (or be a contestant, if I ever got the chance).
I guess we never got around to celebrating that Grand Slam anniversary, and Ogi's Grand Slam fan site somehow expired, but keep in touch if I can be helpful with future ideas.

Thanks, Ed! I'm actually out of West Virginia except for occasional work. I'm in Pittsburgh but I am between NYC and LA constantly because of the never-ending quest to finally sell a show. Thanks for the compliments about the site, too. I really appreciate it. We'll be launching a whole new look in April for its 4th anniversary.TheConfessor wrote:Hi, Alex! I never did get to the Grand Slam thing, no, because long story short I had a minor setback on it. I was plan on trying it in mid March for a special retrospective on GSN since the rebranding of Game Show Network five years ago.

Ok! I'm booked for the show. I'm scheduled for taping on the 17th. I'll be taking a sleeping pill and going to bed at 8pm the night before - no futzing around this time. If I don't make an ass of myself, I'll post the air date. If I do... I'll pretend I don't know when it is.
And-- tall son was notified that his Trivial Pursuit question will air tomorrow. It's been a gameshow good news day for the 2C household!
