How does that preclude having cold water at home waiting for you?

My water has to be icy... usually at least an hour in the freezer. Just keeping it cold in the icebox doesn't cut it....

I am picky dammit!

I'm not going to try to reason with you either, Beast, since I'm often unable to reason with myself. But focusing more on water during your work week is probably a good long-term compromise, if you can keep it up.

But, seriously, Pepsi?

Mountain Dew > Coke > IBC/Barq's/A&W root beer > (insert several other drinks here) > Pepsi

Don't get me wrong, Pepsi isn't bad, but you can do so much better!

It could be worse, though......if you ever start touting the superiority of Diet Pepsi (or worse, Diet Coke) I will be coming up there to kick your ass. Remember, I fly for free, and I can be in St. Louis in no time at all. :P

I remember drinking Mountain Dew when I was little, but I haven't had any in at least 20 years. All that caffeine would do me a world of good right now....

You can tell who the out of towners are around here. They're the ones who don't drink Pepsi or Dew....

Dr. Pepper is very popular here in Texas, I must admit...I have a number of friends who love the stuff. But I don't get it. It's just too......I dunno.....sugary sweet, or something. I've drank it before when there was nothing else available, but I don't understand why so many people in these parts seem to like it so much.

While downing 170 calories (per can) at a time was a major consideration, it's the caffeine that finally caused me to need to scale back a bit. After stubbornly refusing to admit it for years, I finally had to give in to the idea that my Dew fixation was a large part of my inability to sleep on a consistent schedule. :)

I love Shiner Bock . . . A lot, but there are several beers that are just as good or better. Very few of them are from the U.S.

I like Shiner Bock. I said, "I'll have what he's having," and the barkeep not only came right up with it, she remembered next time when I said, "I'll have what I had last time -- what RedCrossBoardPresident usually has." She's worth her weight in gold to that place.

Shiner Bock is good when I can find it here. I prefer Anchor Steam on tap. Sierra Nevada will do in a pinch. And Guinness is just sublime.

In the beginning there was Guinness!

Some long distance after that comes "beer". There are of course gradations amongst the beers but they are so far below Guinness that in the grand scheme of things one hardly notices...

That was the first legal beer I drank. That was before they bottled it. All the bars around Stanford had it on tap. I'm now drinking their Old Foghorn Ale at home.

I should add that somewhere in between Guinness and "beer", especially when looking for a nice party drink on the sweet side that is a bit different, a Lambic makes a nice choice. The Kriek is the classic but I am partial to the Framboise by Lindemans (mostly because it is one of the easier brands to find).

Indeed. You may be convinced you're drinking a fruit punch instead of a beer, but Framboise Lambic is a delightful beverage!
