First electric car that's available for purchase.

And it looks like the business model for the company is sound.
I'd buy one!

Anywhere within that as-yet-to-be-determined price range of $25,000 to $40,000?

If I had the money- yes.
Well- first I'd research what the batteries' lifecycle is.

Ah. That is a hitch with these vehicles of tomorrow, isn't it?

As is this.

How many extension cords do you get for $40,000?

We will be hard-pressed find a fuel that offers the same bang for the buck as petroleum.
Tomorrow's energy will be more expensive- there's no two ways about it.
The economies that will be the leaders of tomorrow will be the ones who make breakthroughs in the more efficient use of energy.

Maybe you can negotiate to get one thrown in.

In my case, I'd need a long one, since my carport is detached from my townhouse and no small distance away from my front door and my outdoor electrical outlet.

An electric car with a hitch? Cool! Will it pull my boat?

Way cool. I knew I had seen this in a commercial:
http://apteraforum.com/showthread.php?t=322
100 mile range would get me to and from the golf course 12 times. Wonder if it has a trunk?

I shouldn't say it's the first.
I believe you can already get the Tesla.
Now the Tesla is WAY cool- at a cool $100 Gs

Might be good for a hard core urbanite but not enough range and not enough room for me to be an only car. And I just don't need two cars. Especially not at 40 grand. Not really that interested even at 25K.
Maybe some day they will be practical but I suspect for most people this isn't it.
Heck I regularly do more than 100+ miles in a day as it is and if it can't comfortably reach at least 70-75 mph then I really wouldn't be interested. Says the top speed is 90 but I wonder if it can make 100 miles in range running at highway speeds.

It would work for me...I do need two cars and travel only 60 miles a day round trip (I can make it even less if I took the van). I'd have to do all sorts of energy/price calculations (and take into account how much extra this car costs) to REALLY be sure, though.
But I agree electric vehicles aren't practical yet.
If they perfect an ultra-high density capacitor (tests are ongoing), things might be different. That's the next breakthrough.

I would also wonder about crash survivability. Air bags are nice but if the cab of a semi is sitting where your head was supposed to be an air bag might not offer much solace. Heck, an SUV at decent speed would likely decimate this thing. I am guessing it is a composite material of some sort. But then that is true of many small vehicles which is another reason I like my nice decent sized truck wrapped around me!

Definitely not the first.
There are ZENN electric cars available for sale across the street from my apartment building.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Yes.
ZENNs are limited-use cars (30-50 mile range, top speed 25 mph).

I qualified it later by saying it probably wasn't the first.

My mistake. I missed the fact that the Tesla post was yours. I apologize for my post.
