QOD Saturday, 12/01 "QUESTIONS"

#1 Post by fantine33 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 8:48 am

If you didn't already read the post on how this works, here you go.

http://wwtbambored.com/viewtopic.php?t=1520

QUESTIONS

"Yeah, dumby, we know it's questions, you've been yammering about it for a week." No, wait, that's the category! I thought we should start off the questions with questions. Ha!

Who wrote or said the following? Please ignore whether they might be apocryphal or a word off somewhere. I tried for accuracy, but not as hard as someone else will. Please remember to spoiler your answers if possible.

1. How do I love thee?

2. Do you know the way to San Jose?

3. Can we all get along?

4. If winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

5. Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that?

QOD: If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?

5 Point Bonus: What is the answer to the second question posed in #5?

Spoiler
1. How do I love thee? E B Browning

2. Do you know the way to San Jose? Dione Warwick (I'll bet she knew you were going to ask this.)

3. Can we all get along? Rodney King

4. If winter comes, can Spring be far behind? P B Shelley

5. Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that? Bill Gates

QOD: If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?

Rogers Hornsby( after being told about Grantland Rice's poem that suggested that it matters not if you won or lost but how you played the game. Hornsby replied, "Then why the fuck do they keep score!!??")

Often mistakenly credited to Vince Lombardi. (Although I guess he could have stolen it--I mean borrowed.)

5 Point Bonus: What is the answer to the second question posed in #5?

Bill Gates, of course.

Spoiler

1. Count these ways, beeyotch: Lizzie B. Browning
2. Hal David and Burt Bachrach wrote it. Dionne Warick and Karen Carpenter (among others) are known for singing it.
3. Rodney King. I have no joke for this
4. P(eanut) B(utter) Shelley.
5. I can't remember if there's a penalty for guessing in the "Quiz" portion. If there is, I clam, but if not I'll wag Confusious.

QOD: Thanks to my buddy who does a "Who Said It?" category in his weekly pub quiz that I go to every week, I know this is Vince Lombardi (it was the quote about a month ago!).

Bonus: For me, it's about a 4 hour flight, direct to San Jose international. For Dionne, it was probably straight up the 101.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

But you don't see me wahing, now do you? Suck it up!

And ha! on you spoilering your comments, that whip crack really got your attention. You know that dumby is one of my favourite words.

I'm not using the spoiler feature since 1. I'm not playing seriously, and 2. I'm too ignorant to read the rules which is why I have to try to be funny rather than smart.
