I have never been as proud of my youngest.

He is in Kindergarten and I went to conferences.

He was sitting on my lap and after the teacher got done droning on about the standardized test results-Kindergarten-mind you.

I have noticed that Parent Teacher conferences are essentially a discussion of standardized test results-what a joke-I always try to turn the discussion to is he/she behaving-is he applying himself up to his potentail etc-It is very hard to get that sort of important qualitaive data-well anyway enough ranting.

As I was saying-afther the discussion of his geomentry and algebra scores (Kindergarten -mind you)

I asked "Is he behaving himself-doing what he is supposed to etc?"

Teacher asked him "What do you sometimes get in trouble for?" He was holding his head down and said very sheepishly-"Running." OK, that is to be expected. Teacher than asked him-Is there anything else.
Again holding his head down he said very sheepishly-"Spitting." I have never been so proud-That was not the answer the teacher expected and the look on her face was worth the price of admission.

Turns out that another kid got in trouble for spitting in Gym and it apparently made an impression-

I have been bragging about "Spitting" all week. It was awesome.

Interesting how schools handle things in different ways.

For example, parent-teacher conferences at our school rarely involve the child. They normally stay at home, or sit in the hallway. Our son's conference earlier this week was student-led, but he then went out to the hall when my wife wanted to speak about a few academic items with which we some concerns. (Really, our main concern was the lack of information flow from the teacher. Plus, she seems less responsive to the idea of pushing kids to reach their potential. Interestingly, she is heavily involved in the teacher's union for the District.)

Oh, and we do not have any standardized tests until 2nd Grade.

Funny -- and great that the little one heard the "you" as an indefinite pronoun.

We don't discuss standardized tests during PT conferences, but that may be because the conferences are so early in the year. It's more of a meet and greet than anything.

Indiana legislature is considering a bill to REQUIRE parents to attend PT conferences. LOL

These are people who claim to know what's best for education....

I have been wondering the same thing.

He has always been VERY adamant that he does not want a girlfriend and he WON"T get married.

BUT

the other night he told my mom-"Gramma, I don't want a GF, but if I ever go on a date, I want to use Grandpa's car(Its a Caddy) because I don't think the girl would like Daddy's dirty old car."

He is gonna be the handful.
