WOOHOO! New job 1 mile from home!

#1 Post by Flybrick » Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:37 am

I was notified this morning that I was selected for a near dream job, that of a professional historian. That by itself would send me over the moon and I'm grateful for the opportunity and, frankly, to have a job. Barring any HR snags, I'm in!

But, the place is one mile straight line - probably 1.5 walking - from my home. I will get the almost three hours a day currently lost in commuting back!

Plus, getting to walk to work!

I am blessed, thankful, grateful, and extremely bouyant!

I'm sure I'll get hit by a bus today....

So how much do you have to pay them per year to do the job.

Oh, wait a second-I reread the post and it appears that they are paying you to be a historian.

Um, this might not be my place-but I have to tell you-

This is your official notice-Congratulations-You have died and gone to Heaven.

That is great.

I, too, live a straight line mile from work. Walking to work is great. Walking home is even better.

In the summer here (March-October) I ride the bus to keep from melting but I really enjoy the walking this time of year.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Congratulations! There are very few jobs I would rather have. Luckily, the one I have is one of them, but I'm still envious.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, just want to let Brick know that I share his excitement about working so close to home. SteelersFan and I are thinking about moving back in to our rental house, which is .7 of a mile from my job as the crow flies, or as Sprots walks. :D Driving, it's about three miles, which is still a great improvement over the approximately 10 miles I'm driving now. Hope it works -- we'll know later this spring.

My job is about six miles from where I live, which by Atlanta standards is practically next door. One of the great things about it is how easy it is to get back and forth and how little of my time is spent in cars (or on gas). One of the things I'm sure you'll grow to love is how much more of your life is yours as opposed to the job's.

Congrats.
