The good news this morning is that despite the high winds that blew through our town yesterday Rivendell didn't lose power, although 27,000 other locals did. We did see a couple more branches fall from a tree but they fell harmlessly to the ground, missing any wires or the house.

We're supposed to have pretty powerful wind/wind gusts here today, so I'm heeding the advice to not park directly near any trees, and then just hoping for the best.

I lost power from about 8 AM until 10 AM due to our 60 MPH gusts. Even though our lines are buried around here, they must not be someplace between here and the distribution station. I have UPSes on my A/V and computer equipment but their batteries all drained. It turned out my PC wasn't shut down automatically and my RAID array was corrupted and is now repairing itself.

The biggest problem if the outage had persisted would be heat and water. Heat is hot water radiators and the water is on a pump. A lot of the homes around here have generators but of course we don't. I'm moving in two weeks and will be happy to leave all the problems wih this house behind.

The worst part would be that I promised to make brownies for tomorrow for work, and if I don't bring those, I'm not going to make it through the day alive.
