Most peeps probably don't even notice it. It does drive me crazy, though, I must admit.Tocqueville3 wrote:I do it when I have to hold the mic. It's not really a conscious thing. I don't like holding the mic when I sing but when I have to and there is no mic stand, I tap it. When there is a mic stand I tap my leg or tap my food. I think it really has to do with keeping up the beat.moonie wrote:Random observations:
Looks like they have alot of talent this year. And alot of pretty faces.
Why is it when the girls sing, they always tap the microphone with their hand? That 'tap' has been going on for years now, but I've never seen anyone do it outside of "Idol".
Now that I think about it, I might try to stop as it could be annoying to peeps watching.
All singers get into bad habits. Back in the day, I had two terrible habits. One had to do with the fact that I stood in front of the drummer on most nights in close proximity to his crash cymbal (the biggest and loudest of the setup). After you play long enough with someone and know their tendencies, especially when you've played a certain song a hundred times, you know what that person's going to do. It got to the point that I knew when he was going for that cymbal, and everytime, I would flinch in anticipation. The other guys pointed out what I was doing, and I trained myself to stop doing it. Of course, as a result, I've lost some of my high-end hearing in that left ear, with the accumulation of all those crashes, but all for the love of rock-n-roll, right? The other thing I didn't even realize until I saw us on a video a friend took of us at a gig. It seems that, quite often, when I would finish a phrase, I would jerk my head to the right, away from the mic, before snapping back to sing the next line. When I saw how often I was doing that, I was completely shocked and embarrassed. I really looked ridiculous. It took a WHOLE lot of practice not to do that. Even now I see a lot of singers do the same thing, and I think "you look as dorky as I did" and I want to yell at them to stop. Is it that obvious to others? Was I? Dunno. All I know is that when I saw that video, I felt like hanging up the microphone in embarrassment right there and then.
Seriously, though, I'd bet that most folks that watch you don't even notice the finger tapping.
